Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race 2014

The Final

I think it’s fair to say this year’s Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race has been the most exciting, compelling and enthralling to date! We increased the prize money on offer, changed the format and also increased the number of spaces available. A lot of time and effort has gone into planning, organising the series and to see the event close in such a great way was most pleasing for myself and Eamon Wright (Loft Manager). Throughout the series the One Loft birds have achieved some outstanding results racing in Section E of the Nipa. In the 3rd Hotspot Boxer (Rob Beynon) finished 32nd Section E with 4294 pigeons competing and 163rd NIPA Open against 18,638 birds. In the 4th Hotspot the One Loft bird belonging to Bunny (Paul Bunclark) recorded 6th Section E, 5,416 birds and 55th Nipa Open 21,391 birds. In the 5th Hotspot (Peter Dempsey) finished 2nd club 465 birds, and 12th section E 5198 birds. In addition Kieran G (Kieran Galvin) finished 4th club 465 birds and 20th section E 5198 birds. At the start of the year 20 members entered 60 birds in the event and through the course of the season Eamon has cared, trained and raced these birds with the intention of getting them prepared for the Final Race in this year’s Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race. It is a massive credit to him and the members that sent over their best to Ireland that Eamon managed to get 40 birds to the final! This is surely an outstanding result given that they originated from 20 different lofts, have been trained several times a week and had 5 races prior to the final up to 156 miles!

The final race in this year’s series took place on 23rd August 2014 from 176 miles. The 40 birds remaining in the competition were all in fantastic condition and keen to reward their breeder’s confidence in them by claiming the title of the Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race Champion 2014! News came through at 10am that the birds had been liberated in conjunction with the Nipa convoy. 3 ½ to 4 hours was the anticipated flying time for the leading birds. Anticipation on the forum had been high all week, with good banter and expectation flying around amongst members. Pools were down on the fancied birds and the prize money and glory awaited the winners! Eamon was pretty much on the mark with the time forecast as the winning bird was clocked at 14.05.05.

The bird claiming the title of the Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race 2014 Champion and very rightly deserved went to WHU14D 01408 Boxer (Rob Beynon). This bird has been outstanding all the way through the series having previously won the 2nd and 3rd Hotspots and had been 3rd Open in the 4th and 5th Hotspots! What more can be said about this hen! Fantastic all round display from start to finish. When you consider there were 60 birds entered from all over the UK, and this hen has won 3 of the 6 races in the series and was 3rd in another two! Remarkable and a very worthy champion! The bird collected the £250 1st Open prize and was also nominated in the pools and collected £130 in addition. The win guaranteed this hen was also crowned ‘Ace Bird’ throughout the series which carried another £150 prize fund! £530 was the total winnings for this hen in this race, but the title of the Pigeon Pixels One Loft Champion 2014, I am sure Rob Beynon is far more pleased about! This bird is a Verheye / Frans Zwols. On the dam side is a Verheye bred by Franny Perruzzi of Norwich and on the sire side is a Frans Zwols from Johnny Strachan of Scotland.

2nd Open and just 1 minute, 39 seconds behind the winner was GB14F 33652 bred by Bunny (Paul Bunclark from Rotherham, South Yorkshire) and duly collected the £100 Prize money on offer. Paul only bred 4 pigeons this season. 2 went to the Somerset One Loft Race and two were sent here! This bird also finished 2nd Open in the 2nd Hotspot. The nest mate to this pigeon finished 1st Open in the 4th Hotspot and finished 6th Section E, 5,416 birds and 55th Nipa Open 21,391 birds. The 2nd Open this bird achieved in the final race ensured he finished 3rd Ace Bird in this year’s series. A very decent pairing who between them collected £578 in total for the series! The dam is a 2012 pigeon from Allan Jones and she raced in the RPRA OLR and 2013 yearling season in which she raced with credit and then bought in subsequent auction. The sire is a 2009 pigeon bought from Herbots from the Daniel Beelen auction and is a stunning cock.

3rd Open and 2 minutes, 13 seconds behind the winner was Brother Loft. (Luc and Ioan Zimmer) with a venturer pigeon bred by Eamon Wright and collected £50 in prize money. This pigeon has also finished 4th Open in the 2nd Hotspot, 8th Open in the 3rd Hotspot, 6th Open in Hotspot 4. A very consistent pigeon throughout the series. With his 3rd Open in the Final, this pigeon was good enough to claim 2nd Ace Bird in this year’s series. Brother Loft are two young lads from Brecon, Mid Wales. Luc and Ioan Zimmer are only 13 and 9 years of age respectively. They have only had pigeons just over a year and have one of the most unique loft in the Uk - 10ft in the air on top of a pergola! Their own entries were not ready to send in time so a venturer bred by Eamon Wright was entered on their behalf. Brother Loft’s pigeon is a Herman Cuesters / Lambrect cross. First time pairing. The hen is from Premier Lofts and the cock from Wilkes Farm lofts. Well done boys and hopefully your own bred pigeons can perform equally as well in the next years event!

4th Open went to Billt (Bill Tanner) who was 4 mimutes, 24 seconds behind the winner. The youngster is a Corbett Busschaert, The parents were direct from Louella Lofts, the g/sire is a double g/son of Skater and Fran, Skater 7 x 1sts. 4 times first sec. Fed, brother to Ch. '14, 16 x 1sts, Fran 6 x 1sts. 4th Fed Lerwick, 546mls. The Dam is a g/daughter of Skater and Fran on the sire’s side and a g/daughter of Dark Dan and Dark Princess on the dam’s side, this pair were responsible for 15 x 1st club, 11 x 1st. Fed and Open, Dan's g/sire was Shetland Surprise, 3 x 1st Lerwick 546mls. 10 x firsts in all!

5th Open went to Kieran g (Kieran Galvin) from Ireland, the bird clocked 4 minutes, 29 seconds behind the winner. This bird has hit form just at the right time and follows up from its 2nd Open in the 5th Hotspot. This bird finished 5th Ace Bird in the series. The bird is a Cooreman x Kees Bosua. Kieran has been backing this bird throughout the series in the pools and was rewarded with £194 today due to being the 1st Gold Ring bird clocked as well! Congratulations Kieran.

6th Open went to WHU14T 05302 who was bred by Rasbull Lofts (A.Shepherd & Son) who finished 4 minutes, 53 seconds behind the winner. This hen had also been 4th Open in the 1st Hotspot and 7th Open in the 4th & 5th Hotspots. This bird also finished 4th Ace Bird in this year’s series. This bird is bred from Richard’s top stock pair. The cock was bred by Alan Evans and was 4th Open Welsh Jubilee Race 500 miles. Also 2nd Section, 3rd Federation 3,652 birds. Had his first breeding season with Rasbull Lofts last year and bred 3rd Open, Final Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race and 80th Open, Final Somerset One Loft Race. The hen was bred by Martin Hayne and was 2nd Open Yearling Somerset One Loft Race 2013 winning £6,450. She is Double Granddaughter to Breakaway Boy 1st Open BBC Vire 2010. Grandmother was 1st Open Somerset One Loft Race 2010. First breeding season for this hen and first year pairing for these two pigeons with 3 youngsters from them finishing 4th, 4th , 5th , 5th , 7th , 7th Open in the Hotspots and now 6th Open in the Final is very encouraging.

This year’s series has been an outstanding success, with 39 of the 40 birds that were sent to the final race returning. That really is outstanding by Eamon Wright, who puts so much time and effort into this race to make this race such a success. The birds will now go on to compete in the Irish Nationals. Any members wishing to have their birds returned after the Nationals are free to do so. Those that want the birds to remain with Eamon will enter the Irish Classic Challenge and will continue to race as yearling and beyond in the Irish Nationals! More information about the Pigeon Pixels Classic Challenge can be found on the forum.

Well that’s the series finished! I think it was a great success with 2/3rd of the entry making the final, all members who entered having a bird in the final race and 39 from 40 back from 176 miles! Congratulations to Boxer, Bunny and Brother Loft on finishing in the money. Also congratulations to Boxer on winning the Ace Bird.

The event is growing each year and going from strength to strength and fast being picked up on by One Loft specialists as a very decent, challenging and honest race to enter. We are expecting another full loft of entries for the 2015 race with many new members requesting to enter. Details have now been confirmed for next year’s event:- After the massive success of the last 2 events, Pigeon Pixels has once again teamed up with Irish Fancier Eamon Wright of Shortcut Lofts who competes in the mighty NIPA. We have modified and improved the competition each year and this coming year will be no different! We have not only incorporated a One Loft Series with increased prize money but for the coming season, we will hold a Best of the Best race which will feature the top 15 birds in a race of their own for £500!! The 2015 race will guarantee prize money of over £2,000 which is great for the members who send their pigeons in the quest of the Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race Champion title! Once again, you will get the chance to have your birds compete in the Irish Nationals after the One Loft series has finished! This will offer a real test for your birds against some really big household names in the sport and massive birdage of up to 28,000 birds! Most fanciers will welcome the chance for their birds to compete against other members birds on Pigeon Pixels in a One Loft series and also have the chance to compete against Eamon’s very successful race team and thousands of pigeons in the Irish Nationals after the series has finished! There will be an entry fee of £35.00 per pigeon and this will cover the costs of Prize money, Trophies for the winners and entering the 15 birds in the National race. Maximum entry of 2 pigeons and all entrants must be members of Pigeon Pixels. There will be Trophies for the 5 ‘Hotspot’ race winners, The Final Race winner, ‘Ace’ bird and 'Best of the Best' Champion!
