PIGEON PIXELS ONE LOFT RACE

2014

Following last year's tremendously successful first Pigeon Pixels One Loft which resulted in fantastic racing, excitement for our members and glory for the winners we have been busy organising this year's event. Following last year's final race some members had their entries returned to them, but the majority left the birds with Eamon Wright to compete in the Pigeon Pixels Irish Classic Challenge. These have been raced in this year's Nationals with several of the birds collecting very good Open positions in the Irish Nationals.

So on to the 2014 Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race. The major changes to this year's event was an increase in the amount of spaces available, the integration of prize money for the winning birds, a gold ring scheme for added excitement and interest and a change in the way the ace bird is calculated. Along with Eamon Wright (Loft Manager) we established that we could increase the amount of entries this year to 60 and these were priced at £25 per pigeon to enter. All 60 spaces have been sold after members saw the interest and professional way the birds were handled in last year's event when we had over half the original entries successfully complete the 6 race series. We have added the incentive for members to win with decent prize money available throughout this year's series. We have the following prize money on offer:- 1st Hotspot - £75, 2nd Hotspot - £75, 3rd Hotspot - £100, 4th Hotspot - £100, 5th Hotspot - £150. The final race 1st - £250, 2nd - £100 and 3rd - £50. In addition to the prize fund we have allocated £150 to the Ace Bird throughout the series. We calculated last year's winners by lowest time but this year's event will be calculated on a points basis. Pigeons will be given points for the first 10 birds clocked on each of the races. The first bird will be given 10 points, the 2nd bird will be awarded 9 points and so forth down to 10th place who will be given 1 point. The final race will command double points and the bird at the end of the series will be given the title of Ace Bird.

We have this year also incorporated a Gold Ring Scheme which will add new interest for those involved. We have around half the entries entered into the Gold Ring Scheme and the total prize fund will be split over the 5 Hotspot races. The first Gold Ring bird clocked in each race will win £64.

The 60 birds were transported over to Ireland in January-April and they have all settled to the loft very well. Losses have been minimal due to Eamons hard work and the quality of the birds the members of Pigeon Pixels have sent over. The birds are currently in training at the moment and have just reached the 25 miles stage. The racing begins in 2 weeks' time and the interest and excitement is growing all the time on the forum. The Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race is going to be an annual event and with guarantees prize money of over £1,400 in this years event, the way the birds are superbly handled, trained and raced by Eamon will ensure the Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race goes from strength to strength in the years to come.
