Around Middlewich
After all the losses that we have seen the first 100mls plus race for the Mid Cheshire Fed was from Mangotsfield and what a weekend it turned out to be. It looks like the majority of organisations made an early decision to mark on the Saturday but some stuck to the normal Friday night marking times.
There were strong tail winds for those racing south road and young birds can soon be 50mls or so past their home loft where they should be and then it's coming back against the wind that is the toughest part of such a race. As it turned out a few did liberate on the Saturday but reports are mixed on how good they raced. On the Sunday there were also mixed feelings as to whether they had made the right decision because some were a lot missing by the end of the day while others had good returns. I think overall the best decision was to cancel the races altogether but that had to be a brave decision that few would take, we all know how we pigeon fanciers want to race no matter what the conditions, in fact I better say some fanciers.
The Middlewich FC were at Mangotsfield where some had good races while others suffered with times. The top three positions went to the in form loft of W Wilson & Son with two red cocks and a red hen recording vels. of 1511/1466/1459ypm. Syd Latham, Son & Daughter are 4th with a mealy pied on 1298ypm. I have not seen a fed result for this race but i do know that John Allbutt topped the list.
The Middlewich 5B were at Bath when 7 sent 70 that saw Ken & Stan Bosson take the red card with a blue hen on 1583ypm with 11th South West Cheshire fed when 48 sent 719 birds. The Fed winner this week is long standing fancier Joe Glover. Ron Woodward took the next two positions with a blue hen and chequer cock on 1551/1529ypm, Ron's first ending up 20th Fed. Mr & Mrs Dudley Niblett are 4th after seeing home a blue cock recording a vel. of 1524ypm.
