The Book and The Man

"Pigeon Man" is the latest of an extensive series of paperbacks from the pen of Elimar contributor Jim Emerton. I wonder at times whether Jim is like a stick of rock with the words Pigeon Man running through him from head to foot. He is without doubt no less than profilic in his output of constant musings and writings about the sport of pigeon racing and as no doubt you may know, with fixed focus on the "The Barcelona Dream".

When speaking to Jim he referred to this latest publication as his Opus Magnus and I must say, it is an apt description of a book that is almost 500 pages thick and packed with all things pigeon. Within the contents that contain ten distinct sections, he covers everything from "Pigeon Racing for Beginners" in Section 1 to "The Inner Most Thoughts of Jim Emerton" in Section 8. You can even share in a catalogue of questions and answers that Jim has encountered along his journey through pigeon racing, nicely set out in Section 3.

I wouldnt' be exagerating when I say that Jim is extremely proud of this latest book and he feels that it represents a lifetime of experiences, feelings and hard earned knowledge gained and committed to print, for all to share. There are many of us who would like to write a book and for various reasons never will. Perhaps we don't have the skill, don't have the nerve or even wouldn't even know where to start. Our sport or hobby, which ever category you consider pigeon racing to be a part of, can only be richer for contributions like those made by Jim Emerton. Unfortunately, contibutors who give of their time and effort for the entertainment of other fanciers in this great hobby of ours, are in the minority. So whether you choose to buy a copy of one of Jim's books or just follow him on Elimar Pigeons, I know he will continue to entertain us for as long as he is able, like the "Pigeon Man" that he is.
