BOXING DAY

Yesterday when I was young and felt so strong, I was out with dog and gun, under an ice crystal sun. Beyond the shroud the foreboding crowd, I dwelt in hedgerows, barley stubble and meadows where rabbits lived and pheasants hid to escape the lonely hunter. I came alive on the earthy clod and felt the power of the cosmic flow that coursed energy from deep below. It is good to tap the primal self that fuels the mind with the oxygen of insight. And now alone in the rain-sodden gloom, I recall when the youth was in full bloom.
