The Exception To The Rule
The top fliers get to a place where they are seeking outstanding breeding and racing performances. Some, by virtue of skill and dedication have their share of exemplary pigeons. These birds are a mixture of diverse origins. There are no true pure pigeons for any trait or performance level. Great distances and feats will manifest rare performance birds which are the elite of the sport.
“Champion Woodsider” and “The Tee” spring to memory. I like the radical idea of stretching the conventional boundaries of the sport, especially in the great marathon races. I think around 900 miles on the 3RD DAY into the UK would be classed as a great performance. This is achievable with self sacrifice, yet goes against the trend of popular racing which is up to 500 miles on the day. I like hard endurance pigeons with great navigation and survivability e.g. The Marco Wilson Dark Cock - the man gave me 2 children off this champion at
844 miles.
