WHO ARE THE GREATEST?
by Jim Emerton
There is no conclusive or absolute definition of greatness or genius in any human field of endeavour. In pigeons we believe certain fanciers to be of a high order and outstanding. To perceive this is often the product of publicity in the media, where interested parties generate attention and interest. Sometimes men like Neil Bush, who do not court publicity, go relatively unnoticed. Now this man has an exemplary record in the Grand National Pau and Tarbes races over 700 miles since 1982.
Popularity and greatness can be similar, yet I rather admire the quiet resolve and singular dedication of those who steadfastly target a race point in pursuit of perfection. Seeking fame is like a norm in society, yet power to the people who do not embrace it, oddballs or not oddballs!
