WHAT'S IN A WIND?
by Jim Emerton
There is a certain preoccupation with high velocities, and win, win, win and speed as arbiters of relevance and quality. I am a little different in my principles. When racing south I like variations of north/nor east and east winds as a test of my skill and intrinsic qualities of the birds’ endurance/navigation and desire to home from great distances in velocities from 500 to 1100 ypm. I trust these bods for my family breeding purposes in the stock loft. For 500 miles I like 12 to 16 hrs on the day and 700 miles within 3 days and 879 miles within 4 days. Yes I am biased to this concept, and for many the mantra is the faster the better - all part of the hardcore of the sport. We all decide on our preferances, yet look at the growth of the BICC as a club worthy of your participation - now huge.
