REACTING TO DIFFICULT RACES

by Jim Emerton

I take it on the chin, and aim to improve my own system and attitudes towards the race conditions. With due respect we can but speculate and guess at the actual conditions faced over the total race distance by the birds - we are not the birds and do not necessarily know. I hate the idea of automatic blame of the externals i.e. the birds/holdover/transporter/convoyer/race point etc. I have had some humdingers in my time, and they are what they are in race reality. Why get extra punitive and blame everyone else? Future races will entail some difficulty and that is the essence of the sport. Having said this, sometimes there are human errors in forecasting or liberations, all down to pressure/responsibility and judgement. We now have 7 yearlings from Tarbes NFC 2014 and that will do for us.
