LONG TERM PLANNING

by Jim Emerton

Some folk live for today and in the moment as it were, which suits some personalities. I have always had goals and targets that are years in the making and come to fruition. My academic post school studies matured over 11 years - a great deal of time in educational establishments, with gallons of sweat from the brow. In my specialist marathon racing, I would predict and plan around individual pigeons for years. An example would be to earmark yearlings that have flown in races around 500 miles for later 7 to 800 mile racing. This type of philosophy takes huge focus and dedication, yet can be very rewarding in national and international racing up to Barcelona. The wisdom is to find out what your ambitions are and pursue them with a relish. A forward looking fancier will forsee in his mind’s eye the long term strategy and potential impact of his efforts. The famous and iconic people are there for a reason it would seem. Having said this, whatever ignites your flame.
