THE MIND OF THE SPECIALIST FANCIER

by Jim Emerton

The specialists tend to predominate in racing, and at every level of competition. In theory any fancier can know success with a top bird. In practice the main fanciers who become the elite are people with a winning mentality. Each intricate detail constitutes the blueprint or masterplan of the concerted campaign towards the self-fulfilling prophecy of sustained excellence. If it were a matter of just good pigeons it would be easy, since there are plenty. The specialist then, employs a practical, personal and efficient system, of which he is an integral part to achieve his objectives. He endures difficulty in the overall concept, and maintains mental discipline and focus over years or a lifetime in direct association with some aspects of the sport. The International winners are all people of applied intelligence and often advanced and esoteric knowledge. Ask yourself the question - what do I need to know and do to be a purist, perfectionist and specialist? The central aspect and essence of this philosophical outlook could be self satisfaction or contentment - whatever lights the flame of your mind. In conclusion, mind is the core of specialism in man and probably bird too.
