LIQUID FEEDING OF RACING PIGEONS
by Jim Emerton
There are ongoing opinion and debate exchanges about the relative merits of hard corn feed mixtures and straights and supplements as magic ingredients of racing pigeon diets for different distances. Often the nature of these is linked to the confidence/belief and success of the fancier, with or without real knowledge of the science and art of pigeon racing. Fashions change along with publicity and popular knowledge of the sport. There is no exact and definitive formula for feeding, and the essence is to fuel the birds up with sufficient reserves of fat/muscle and energy for sustained flight at variable distances. We need to work on the level of the blood, brain, cell and internal organs of the bird i.e. at the total being of the bird on a physiological/psychological level. The success of this can be perceived by observing the outward behaviour of the birds in correlation with racing performance. A powerful and rapid effect can be made via the liquid feeding of active supplements, which are classed by vets as NON-DOPING e.g. Chevita Mycosan-T CCS, Rohnfried Blitzform, and Vydex Supersix - all of which are administered as liquid feeds. I hope you find this useful in your search for the optimal feeding regime of a pigeon.
