There were some big gaps in the birds in this race with the top 30 birds in the fed being filled up in 59 yards.

Mid Tyne Federation Melton Mowbray.

Well this was another one of those races, poor weather forecast for all of the weekend so pigeons basketed on Sunday to race Monday.  Then Monday turned out full cloud so birds held over until Tuesday. This delay undoubtedly put a number of lofts off as the fed as a whole only mustered 607 birds from just 31 lofts.

Boldon Colliery had 11 lofts send 291 birds and it was the same top lofts that again did the damage. In pole for 1st club 1st fed were the Mckenna Bros on 1264.2ypm, more about their winner later. Second club 2nd fed Graham, Gilchrist & Brennan, 1263.2ypm, again more about this one soon. Next were Walker & Greenlay keeping up their run of having a number of birds on the clock. This time for 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th & 9th in both club and fed, the first one doing 1263.05ypm and the last of these on 1244.8ypm. All of the above lofts also had other pigeons in the top 20 fed positions.

Now back to the winning pigeons. The winner for Tom & Kevin is their great little hen “The Duchess”. I mentioned her last week in the Folkestone report, well it has since been confirmed that in that race she finished at 7th Open U.N.C. The G.G.B. pigeon in at 2nd this week was last week’s winner which was 5th Open U.N.C. Then we come to Walker & Greenlay, the fifth pigeon in the clock for them this week at 8th fed was 3rd club last week and finished at 9th Open U.N.C. You must agree fantastic performances from three pigeons from a field of 24,246 pigeons. I must also add these three lofts had twelve pigeons in the first one hundred of the Open result between them, so well done to you all. Yes Boldon is some club to try to win.

Back to this week's fed result. Nice to see Miller Bros & Kyle finally get on the sheet for 14th club 14th fed 1238.91ypm. Is this your turning point? At Jarrow Alex Glen Scurfield & Son did it again to be 1st club 15th fed on 1238.03ypm. Heworth HS saw W & L Curry have their first race of the season after Billy’s operation, and I bet some members wish they didn’t as the came out on top for 1st club 16th fed doing 1235ypm. Another Heworth loft that has been a bit quiet this season is that of Owens & Barnes, well they got up to be 2nd & 3rd club 17th & 18th fed these on 1234 and 1233ypm. At Hebburn East End P. McDonald Snr was the winner. I believe this may have broken his novice status.

Tyne & Wear C.C. Folkestone.

For this the first C.C. race we had 53 member lofts enter 151 birds with a total of £535 up for grabs in pool and prize money. In first place and winning a total of £337 were John Powell & Son of Cornhill H.S. with a yearling doing 1279.46ypm. Second & fourth positions went to Soderlund & Maddison, Raglan & W.P. on 1274.87 & 1272.52ypm, these two netting them £111. Third place went to Laskey & Robinson, Wrekenton HS on 1273.11ypm, this for £67. Fifth position to Moore & Cleghorn Whiteleas HS 1271.25ypm and sixth place to Taylor & Ali Raglan & W.P. 1269.6ypm, these two getting £10 each.

That’s the first one down. It’s nice to see that the winners came from three different federations.
