ACROSS THE MIDDLE
by Gordon Braban & John Wilkie
Mid Tyne Federation, Melton Mowbray. For this come back race both lofts and birdage seem well down, with just 37 lofts and 684 birds in total. At Jarrow Alexandra the Mr & Mrs Mills partnership are having a great season once again being the victors, making four wins out of six races plus this week chalking up their second fed win. Not only being 1st club 1st fed and 1st “Up the Middle” Section 3 they were also 2nd & 3rd club 10th & 16th fed with velocities of 1317.9ypm1282.8ypm & 1272.6ypm. Wilson Son & Howe were 4th club 19th fed on 1271.1ypm. At Heworth HS, after what has seemed to be a slow start for these lads, the partnership of Owens & Barnes came good to be 1st 2nd 3rd club 2nd 4th 7th fed these doing 1308.3ypm 1303.2ypm & 1290.2ypm. Boldon Colliery HS had 17 members send 355 birds here John Blackburn & Son, Nigel came out on top to be 1st club 3rd fed on 1303.3ypm , this one just piping Graham, Gilchrist & Brennan who were 2nd club 5th fed on 1303.1ypm these lads were also 6th 8th & 9th club 12th 14th & 15th fed the last of these doing 1273.9ypm. Walker & Greenlay were 3rd 4th 7th club 6th 9th 13th fed 0n 1290.7 1283.1 & 1281.4ypm. John Gilhespy 5th club 11th fed1282.7ypm, Billy Miller 10th & 12th club 17th & 20th fed & McKenna Bros 11th club 18th fed. Now once again it gives me pleasure to say we have Hebburn East End on the sheet. Ian Nelson is there at 1st club 8th fed 1283.9ypm. Hebburn is just a small club where the lads mostly fly for FUN but they do enjoy their sport. In all the time I have been doing this report it’s not often we see Hebburn on the sheet but to date this season they have made it on three occasions, you’ve got the other clubs looking over their shoulders, keep it up.
Tyne & Wear Championship Club, Eastbourne. What a race our winner had, this being Woodroffe Bros, not only did they win the T.W.C.C. with their third pigeon on the clock they were actually 1st 6th & 7th Open U.N.C. Well done lads. Back to the T.W.C.C. result where there was £578 up for grabs this from an entry of 159 birds entered by 53 members. As already stated the winners being Woodroffe Bros with their third pigeon recording a velocity of 1461.78ypm this winning a very nice £373. Second position went to Hammond, Webster & Webster, Plains Farm HS on 1447.91ypm this winning £105. T.Gray & Son, Wrekenton HS were in at 3rd & 4th 1436.28 & 1433.98ypm with a total of £80. Summers Bros & Rose, Castletown HS 5th 1432.69ypm and Moore & Gleghorn, Whiteleas HS 6th 1432.41ypm these two lofts £10 each.
