Combine enjoys another good race from Kilkea
Saturday 6th of August saw the East Down Combine back at Kilkea in Co. Kildare for the second race from there and the 4th race of this year’s Young Bird programme and again this week the weather was perfect for a race and the 4,000 plus convoy was released at 10am into a light Westerly wind which saw a very similar race to the 1st Kilkea with the open winner just breaking the 1700ypm mark and this week it was to the Newtownbreda partnership of B Hogg & sons who were 1st and 3rd open and again this week the leading birds were into the West section with lofts here taking the first 15 Open placings .
2nd open was to Belmont’s Albert Gregg and then the Dundonald lofts of Mark Foulis and Mr &Mrs Stephen Brown & son having the next 10 birds between them with Mark winning 4th,5th, 6th ,7th & 9th with the Browns 8th , 10th ,11th, 12th & 13th then two to the Belmont partnership of R & J Conlane.
Top three in the East section were to Annalong’s Kevin Rooney ,son & dtr who were 16th ,18th & 19th open . It was another excellent race with the youngsters tumbling in on top of one another and the full result Open ,Section and nominated was :
