Friday Liberation to beat the poor weekend weather
The weather forecast for the 2nd young bird race from Navan was for poor weather not only on the proposed race day of Saturday 23rd July but also for a number of days following ,so taking this on board the weather committee very wisely decided to opt for a Thursday basketing with a possible Friday race and what a beautiful day the Friday turned out to be with a light Northerly wind and plenty of sunshine which saw the birds away at 9.30am.
The top four in the Open were again to the West section with Newtownbreda club’s Cousins & Albert partnership heading the field for another 1st open placing .
John Patterson of Ballylesson never for from the top was runner up and then Dundonalds Jim Young & ptnrs got two together for 3rd & 4th open . Then it was over to the East section and the Cloughey club with 3 birds to Gordon Bros & sons and then three to Harper & Young to complete the top ten in the open and the top Section places.
It was an excellent race with 114 members entering 4024 birds and the provisional top placing were:
