Newton Abbott for the Dorset Fed

Hello folks hope your young birds are all on fine form. It has been a busy time on the racing front down here in Hardy country and at the time of writing the Dorset fed have got two young bird races under their belt. But before we talk about that a huge congratulations to the Dorset federations very own Tony Stephens who is always one to watch when it comes to National and Classic events and The British Barcelona Clubs Bordeaux National proved no exception as this quiet and dedicated fancier won 1st section and the coveted position of 1st open, so congratulations Tony from all your friends in the Dorset fed on another brilliant performance !

The first young bird race of the 2020 season took place from Newton Abbott on the 26th of July when 16 federation members sent 330 birds being liberated at 9:30 am into a strong south wind with bright and sunny skies. Taking the top four and 10th fed positions in the “Hardy country top ten “is the Rossmore Flying Club  partnership of Mr. &Mrs. M king with a blue hen on the winning velocity of 1607.092, a check cock on 1606.729 ,a check hen doing 1604.912 another check cock on the going 1603.824 and 10th fed with check pied hen 1571.854. In 5th, 7th, 8th place is the Upton Working Mens Flying Clubs partnership of Mr. & Mrs. T. Anderson with a blue cock on a velocity of 1580.106, a check cock 1579.785 and another check cock on 1578.821. Taking 6th place on the fed result is the very popular J&T Fisher and son partnership from Branksome & Upper Parkstone South Road Flying Club with their checker cock doing a velocity of 1579.891. The partnership of J & T Fisher started just over two years ago, but in reality, this partnership started over 37 years ago, as Janet and Trevor are mother and son. Trevor used to race with his father, John, but sadly John passed away in January 2018, Trevor carried on racing in 2018 but, as the loft is in Janet's garden, and she always took an interest in the birds and helped her late husband John to feed and clean out the birds in the last few years of his life because of his illness. As Trevor lives a couple of miles away from Janet with his young family, he and Janet decided to go into partnership with the birds in 2019 as J & T Fisher in the Branksome & Upper Parkstone South Road Flying Club .Having had a good season last year, they had their first Club win earlier this year from Yelverton with Old Birds s. Janet is such a cheerful character that, if you are feeling down, have a cup of tea with Janet and I guarantee that you will come out laughing and smiling. Trev and Jan have worked hard with the Old Birds and the Young Birds this year and all the hard work paid off in the Dorset Fed first Young bird race from Newton Abbot when 18 of their youngsters dropped together taking first 15 places in their Club and 6th, 11th, 12th and 15th to 25th Fed. Their first bird timed was sitting on eggs for a week and was a gift bird from Steve Travers. Four of the birds that took Fed places were also gifts from Steve. Congratulations to Janet and Trevor on your win, and my thanks also to Steve Travers for passing on the details of their win. 9th Dorset Federation for this race is awarded to the Rossmore Flying Club partnership loft of C. Hunter and Son who timed their Dark checker cock which was doing the velocity 1578.154. Congratulations to all the prize winners! That’s the first “Hardy Country top ten” of the young bird season and all the information that I have for this week’s race, so until next time “keep calm and clock em quick”
