Dorset Fed News The Hardy Way 5th July

They say time flies when you’re having fun and time is certainly marching on here in Dorset as here we are on race number five of the 2020 old bird season .Hello folks and welcome to this weeks edition of “Racing pigeons the Hardy way”. Due to a poor weather forecast the wise decision was taken to delay marking by 24 hours for the fifth Dorset Federation race of the season, and so it was that on Sunday the 5th of July that convoy of 918 birds were liberated at 9:00am and headed straight home for Hardy Country in sunny blue skies with a west wind .

Claiming the number one spot in “the Hardy country top ten” this week is the Branksome & Upper Parkstone South Road Flying Clubs C. Tucker with a two-year-old dark Checker cock bird attaining a Federation winning velocity of 2164.157.  2nd Dorset Federation this week is awarded to the East Howe South Road Flying Club’s Carpenter &Bastable who timed a blue yearling cock on 2117.502.  S Travers from the Branksome & Upper Parkstone South Road Flying Club timing a blue yearling cock on the velocity 2109.041 takes 3rd fed.   In 4th with a checked white flight yearling pigeon doing a velocity of 2106.820 is S Russel from Upton Working Men’s Flying Club. The loft of J&T Fisher and son from   Branksome & Upper Parkstone South Road Flying Club score 5th federation this week after timing a two-year-old checker white flight hen bird doing 2102.441.  The partnership of Harp and Pearse , also from  the   Branksome & Upper Parkstone South Road Flying Club timed a blue yearling hen on the going 2100.292 to gain 6th federation .Taking 7th &8th is another member of   the Branksome & Upper Parkstone South Road Flying Club      D. Bartlett who clocked a checker two year old cock bird doing 2088.194 and a grizzle yearling hen on 2084.547. The East Howe loft of K Land are 9th Dorset Federation with a two-year-old blue hen on a velocity of 2063.388. Completing this week’s “Hardy Country top ten” is the loft of Cottrell, Richmond and Son of the Rossmore Flying Club, with a blue pied yearling hen on a velocity of 2056.304. Well done to all the prize winners!

On now to what has been happening in the two clubs that have contacted me this week starting with St Leonard’s and St Ives RPC, where 6 members entered 102 birds. Here is Club secretary and this week’s winner, Jenny Mill’s report: Hi Chris, here is our club report from the Truro race. The wind was extremely strong, and my first two birds came together from the East having been blown through and returning. The first to trap was a blue white flight Jan Aarden 2-year-old hen of Tumley loft lines. Doing a velocity of 2001.865 she was 62nd Open 19th section B from BBC Wadebridge two weeks ago and following her straight in was a Staff Van Reet blue hen on the velocity of 1999.105 another good one bred by David Young.  Taking third was Mike Blake with his excellent Vandenabeele hen, doing 1990.259, this hen was the Winner of last year’s Dorset Fed Breeder Buyer race. Richard Batty takes fourth Blue pied Van den Bulk hen on a velocity of 1981.303, she was bred by Brian Clennan up in Yorkshire. This race was definitely a day for the hens. A disappointing thing to report is Stuart Laws this week had a young bird return from a night out with its life ring cut off, if this has been done by a fancier they should be banned from the sport for life, trouble is ill informed non fanciers also do this, but this happened to Stuart last year as well so if you have any info on these incidents please can you contact our club!

Thanks Jenny, reading things like that it makes you wonder what this world and sport is coming to! Let’s move on now to more positive pigeon racing with the result from the East Howe South Road FC, where 8 members entered 121 birds . this week’s winner is Carpenter and Bastable ,2nd is K Land, 3rd T. Wareham. Taking 4th is B&D Young. Well done to all!

That’s all the news from The Dorset fed for now, so until we go Racing Pigeons The Hardy way again next week “KEEP CALM And CLOCK EM Quick”
