Due to the bad weather forecast The Burton & South Derbyshire Federation basketed their pigeons on Saturday 7th June for a Sunday race from Portland. The pigeons were liberated at 08-30 in a light south south west wind.
In Derby South Road Flying Club having an excellent race taking three of the first four positions also getting the first two pigeons into Derby was the Chaddesden loft of John & Steve Hicks. Their winner was a blue yearling cock doing 1933 followed by a six year old blue cock doing 1932 and finally a yearling mealy cock doing 1921. In third position was Mick Leszczyszak with a five year old cheq hen doing 1923.
In their five bird section John & Steve Hicks take the first three positions doing 1933, 1932 & 1920 with fourth position going to Roy Gregory & Son doing 1914.
In Osmaston Park Homing Society taking the red card also third position was the newly formed partnership of Yule & Inger (Mark & John). Their winner was a red cheq late bred cock doing 1930 which was bred by John Coote. Their second pigeon was a blue cock doing 1906 which was also a late bred. Both Mark & John have returned to the sport after a short break. Mick Willis & Family take second position with a two year old Lambrect cheq w/f cock doing 1926 with Steve Stone in fourth position with a three year old grizzle cock doing 1888 bred from Jack Whitehouse pigeons.
In Etwall & District Flying Club Dave Williams & Son get the winner with a two year old blue cock doing 1925. Their winner was bred by Alan Peach. In second & third positions was Alan & Liz Houldsworth. Both their pigeons were two year old Lambrect cocks doing 1915 & 1913 with fourth position going to Steve Billings with a yearling ch/wf cock doing 1904.
In Ilkeston Bulls Head Flying Club Roger & Mark Duffield get the red card doing 1913 with a two year old cheq cock followed by Mr & Mrs John Dowd taking the next three positions doing 1896, 1879 & 1874. Their first pigeon was a four year old cheq cock followed by a five year old cheq cock then a six year old cheq cock.
In the Silver Ghost Homing Society Brian Dyjas takes first & Fourth positions with a yearling blue cock bred of Alan Brassingtons Broadband doing 1873 followed by another yearling blue cock doing 1856. In second position with a two year old b/cheq cock doing 1860 was Rueben Hough with Woolley & Rogers in third position doing 1859 with a four year old blue cock.
The Derby Burton & District South Road Federation were at Marlborough and were liberated at 14-30 on Saturday in a southerly wind. Taking top spot with a two year old blue hen doing 1677 was Paul & Lynda Todd with Derek Ford in second position with a yearling blue hen doing 1665 followed by John Coote in third position with a yearling mealy cock doing 1635 with Roy Gregory & Son in fourth with a yearling blue cock doing 1606.
