Saturday July 6th and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Messac for their blue riband race from Messac a distance of 350 miles into Derby.

 

The pigeons were liberated at 07-15 with no wind given. In Etwall & District Flying Club 5 members sent 31 birds and taking the first three was the Ashbourne man & wife partnership of Peter & Shirley Harrison. Their winner was a yearling cheq hen doing 1153 followed by a three-year-old cheq hen doing 1071 then a two-year-old blue cock doing 1030.In fourth was A. Peach & Son with a yearling cheq cock doing 978.

In Osmaston Park Homing Society where 12 members sent 86 birds L.D.S. Johnson get the red card with two year old blue cock doing 1070 with S & H W Hall in second doing 948.5 followed by John & Steve Hicks with a three year old cheq cock doing 948.2 and taking fourth was Paul & Lynda Todd with a three year old blue hen doing 940.2.

In Holbrook 3 members sent 9 birds and getting the winner was D & A Swift with a yearling cheq hen doing 1056 followed by Trevor Jennings with a three-year-old cheq hen doing 560.

 

 

Kilburn were at Marlborough with the Derby Burton & District South Road Federation where 6 members sent 124 birds. The pigeons were liberated at 08-00 in a light north wind. Taking the first three positions was Keith Foulke with a three-year-old slatey hen taking the red card doing 1280 followed by a two-year-old slatey hen doing 1248 then a yearling red cock doing 1239.In fourth with a yearling blue hen doing 1219 was Keith Cresswell.

 

 

 The Burton & South Derbyshire Federation also held an inland race from Kingsdown, and the pigeons were liberated at 08-45 in a west north west wind.

 

 

In Holbrook 6 members sent 75 birds and finishing his old bird season of in fine style was Trevor Jennings taking three of the first four positions. His winner was a yearling cheq hen doing 1359.8 followed by a two year old red hen doing 1348 then a yearling cheq hen doing 1298.0.In second was D & A Swift with a yearling cheq pied cock doing 1300.

 

 

In Osmaston Park Homing Society 12 members sent 114 birds with Paul & Lynda Todd taking the top two positions with two yearling blue cocks doing 1359.1 and 1358.5.In third was Dave Waddington with a yearling cheq pied cock doing 1354 with John & Steve Hicks in fourth with a two year old blue cock doing 1340.

In Etwall & District Flying Club A. Peach & Son finished their excellent  season of by taking the red card with a yearling blue hen doing 1319.In second was Sam Phillips with a yearling blue cock doing 1311 with Tony & June Whitehurst in third with a yearling blue cock doing 1263 followed by Alan & Liz Houldsworth in fourth doing 1256 with a two year old blue cock.
