Derby Notes.

Saturday 6th September and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Yeovil with the convoyer getting the pigeons away at 11-20 in a south east wind. The pigeons made light work of the 140 mile plus race back into Derby with the leading pigeons doing in excess of 1700 ypm .In Etwall & District Flying Club 6 members sent 87 birds with Kevin Southall taking the top two positions with a cheq hen doing 1745 ypm  to take the red card followed by a blue w/f/ cock doing 1740  to take second. In third & fourth with two cheq hens doing 1661.8 & 1661.4 were Peter & Shirley Harrison.

Holbrook Miners Welfare had 5 members sending 120 birds with their new member Pete Schofield taking the red card doing 1714 with a youngster which was purchased from Geoff Greenway in Ireland. Taking the next three  positions with velocities of 1710,1707.8 & 1707.4 was Russ Bailey.

In Osmaston Park Homing Society 7 members sent 92 birds and this turned out to be a two loft race with Mick Stone taking the red card with a blue cock doing 1681 followed by a blue hen doing 1670 to take second.

In third & fourth doing 1661 with a red cock, which also won their show race and a cheq cock doing 1657 was Stewart Wainwright.

Mr & Mrs P Todd ( Paul & Lynda ) sent 2 old hens to the Midlands National Flying Club old Hens race from Chale , both arriving almost together. Both pigeons will be well up on the result. The first bird a two year old blue Lambrechts hen bred from pigeons purchased from Steve Foster being provisionally 1st North Center Section and 5th Open. Their first pigeon was sent sitting a youngster which hatched the day before basketing and was doing 1757 YPM. ( Well done to you both ).

The pigeons were liberated at 09-20 in a south west wind with another fast race expected. In Holbrook Miners Welfare 4 members sent 69 birds with Mr & Mrs John Dowd taking the red card doing 1893 with their next pigeon doing 1885 to take third. In second were B & S Stone doing 1890 followed by D & A Swift & Son doing 1867 to take fourth.

6 members sent 89 birds in Osmaston Park Homing Society with the father & Son partnership of John & Steve Hicks putting up another good performance taking the first two positions. Their winner was a blue cock doing 1891 followed by a blue w/f hen doing 1888.In third & fourth was the consistent loft of Mick Stone with a dk/cheq hen doing 1868 followed by a blue w/f hen doing 1867.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 5 members sent 55 birds with Mick Leszczyszak getting the winner with a cheq hen which was well clear doing 1807. ( Well done Michael ).The next three positions went to the ever consistent A.Peach & Son with two mealy cocks doing 1789 & 1785 and a blue hen doing 1785.
