M.Harvey & Son loft 2 excel in a tough race out of Frome.

Saturday August 29^th saw 10 clubs send 1403 birds to Frome, the birds were liberated at 10:00 into a fresh northerly wind, veering n.n.w. the air temperature had a chill in it, with some members moaning how cold it was, what about the babies flying in it? At least it stayed dry for the majority of the birds; some late comers did catch some rain however.  It helped with the following morning having favourable conditions, a lot of the birds that did night out returned next day.     

I didn’t expect the leading birds to do much more than 42 mph so was astounded to hear what velocities the leading bunch made.   

Congratulations to Mick Harvey & Son loft 2 of Swadlincote Town on gaining 1^st; 3^rd and 4^th fed on 1296; 1294; 1289. Great flying Neil!                          The winner was a Cheq Stefaan Lambrecht cock bred by James Parker of Reading; he is out of the Donkere Leo and Lincia lines.

Next was a blue cock, a double grandson of “Max” when paired to a daughter of Chris Vasey’s U.N.C. winner. This cocks brother topped the fed last year as a yb, but it was ruled out due to a registration mishap.                                

Third home was a blue pied cock bred by good friend Jo Gaunt of Heage.  

Taking runner up spot was Clive Yates of the Nelson on 1294 with a blue hen off Micky Betts stock, she was sent sitting a recent hatched baby.

Rob Pearson of Holbrook was 5^th & 6^th fed on 1254; 1230; both hens; the first one off Matt Cotton of Codnor followed by one of robs home grown.

D. Nesbitt & Sons of Hill Ridware were 7^th; 8^th; and 9^th on 1218.4(2); 1218.3; with a Dave Gallear cock and two Leo Hereman hens.                                                                             

Clubmates Spink & Barks were 10^th fed on 1213 with a Leo Hereman hen.

Around the clubs,

At Stretton, 9 sent 143 and Jim Parker & Son took the top two spots on 1195; 1194; both Leo Hereman hens out of the Curtis, Wall & Lunt “Olympiade 003” lines.

Mr & Mrs Pete Cox were 3^rd on 1159 with a Cuester x Vandenabeele cock out of stock from Ann Smith of Ashbourne.                                                      

Phil Whetton was 4^th on 1158 with a dark Cheq cock from Stuart Wiskin of Northampton.

At O.P.H.S. 20 sent 312 and Dave Waddington took 1^st; 3^rd and 4^th club on 1187; 1162; 1161; the winner a red cock off Alan Brassington x Lambrecht stock, he was followed by two out of “The Bat” x Lambrecht stock. Mr & Mrs Paul Todd were runners up on 1186 with a Lambrecht hen.

At The Nelson, 6 sent 128 and Clive Yates was a clear winner on 1294 with a Micky Betts hen.

Mr & Mrs John Passey & family filled the next three spots on 1220; 1200; 1199; the first two Geoff Kirkland Flor Engels, the third a grizzle hen out of Geoff’s “Snake” lines.

At Swadlincote Town, 8 sent 191 and Mick & Neil Harvey took the first 6, details on the first three above in the fed result. Their fourth bird on 1202 was a Cheq pied Hereman Cuester cock off Chris Vasey x Gary Cox lines.

Over at Hill Ridware, D. Nesbitt & sons filled the podium taking the first three all on 1218; the winner was off Dave Gallear.                                                                         

Runner up was a Leo Hereman hen, a grand-daughter of champion “Isla”, this hen topped the fed from Hullavington (1) and went on to take provisional 3^rd open in the M.C.C. race from Wincanton on the bank holiday Monday following this race.   

Third home was another Hereman hen, she was 2^nd fed Hullavington (1), and went on to take provisional 2^nd open N.M.C.C. race from Wincanton on the bank holiday Monday.  Mark had a bank holiday to remember, 1^st & 2^nd P & D stud sponsored gold ring race and 1^st P & D stud sponsored breeder buyer race, both from Purbeck. Fantastic flying mark, well done! 

MARK NESBITT, A GREAT BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY                             

4^th club on 1213 were Spinks & Barks with a Mark Nesbitt Leo Hereman, she has had a 2^nd & 3^rd club this season already.

At Etwall, 8 sent 145 and Mr & Mrs Alan Houldsworth were 1^st; 2^nd; and 4^th on 1191; 1160; 1133.2. The winner was a Cuester x Lambrecht hen off Ian Burnett.

Runner up was a Lambrecht hen and third home was a Cuester cock.                                                                                                  

Kev Southall took 3^rd club on 1133.3 with a Vandenabeele cock.
