2019 Dinner & Prize Presentation Evening

The British Barcelona Club’s 55th Dinner and PRIZE PRESENTATION WAS HELD AT THE MARSHAM Court Hotel, Bournemouth on the weekend of 16th November 2019. Our Guest of Honour for the evening was our Palamos 1971 winner Jack G Paley and his wife Shirley. Older members will remember Jack and his father The British Barcelona Club’s 55th Dinner and PRIZE PRESENTATION WAS HELD AT THE MARSHAM Court Hotel, Bournemouth on the weekend of 16th November 2019. Our Guest of Honour for the evening was our Palamos 1971 winner Jack G Paley and his wife Shirley. Older members will remember Jack and his father, also named Jack winning the race with their record breaking pigeon Woodsider flying 861 miles in to Silsden. Our other special guests were Steve and Nettie Richards who we would like to thank for their continued British Homing World sponsorship. This is the one occasion you get to meet up with old friends and make new ones with so many members and guests making the journey from all over. Phil Smith and Pat Davis coming over from Ireland with their family. Dougie and Irene House making the very long journey to join us from Scotland, Brian Hicks and John Rumney from the North East. It was so lovely to have so many people attend this year as we lost our devoted President Jim Hooper in May and the prize presentation was where Jim Shone. Jim would have been proud to have seen so many people collecting awards and enjoying themselves. This season we have lost so many members and even on the morning of the dinner we heard that Charlie Lakeman from New Milton had sadly passed away, another great supporter of the British Barcelona Club who will be sorely missed. Apologies were given to those Committee members who were unable to attend. The minutes of the 2018 AGM were passed and any matters arising covered. We received 47 resignations which were accepted with regret and the Club had 74 new members in 2019. As it was the end of 2019 business all offices were declared vacant and Tony Whitehurst kindly stood in as temporary Chairman. The 2020 BBC Committee and Officials are as follows: President – Jill Rogers, Chairman – Roger Hurst, Life Vice Presidents as before they are Mrs Hazel Hooper, Mrs Ingrid Jurd, Roger Hurst and Richard Green and we would like to welcome Phil Smith as a Life Vice President, Life Vice Presidents serving on Committee - Dave Whitefield Committee – Martin Norman, Stephen White, Bill Knox, Simon Parker and Alan Shore. Secretary/ Treasurer – Clare Norman, Auditors - Jill Rogers and Dave Whitefield. The result of the ballot is as follows: 111 ballot papers were returned with 2 not counted. Proposition 1 – 23 For 83 Against and Proposition 2 – 46 For 60 Against. Finally, permission was given to destroy old documents and the AGM closed at 2.55pm. We would all like to welcome Jill on becoming the first female President of the British Barcelona Club and wish her well.
