DINNER & AWARD PRESENTATION 2023
The British Barcelona Club presentation began with some guests arriving on the Friday and making a
whole weekend of it.
On the Saturday the AGM was held in the afternoon. The minutes from the 2022 AGM were read out and
passed as a true record. The Accounts and balance sheet which had been previously circulated amongst the
members were accepted by those present. Jill Rogers reported that 48 resignations had been made and
these were accepted with regret.
All Offices were declared vacant and Mick Dickinson took the Chair. The New Officers to serve the Club
for the 2024 season are:
President: Mrs Jill Rogers, Chairman: Bill Knox,
Life Vice Presidents: Dave Whitefield and Mrs Ingrid Jurd had sadly passed away in 2023 so with no new
LVP to add, the LVP’s remain as Mrs Hazel Hooper, Richard Green, Roger Hurst, Roy Ferriman & Nigel
Rigiani.
The Committee: M Norman, C King, D Harvey, C Rogers, M Gilbert. Jill Rogers then introduced Aurel
Voiculescu who was welcomed to the Committee. He spoke about his ideas for BBC and introducing new
technologies such as a BBC Facebook page to encourage younger fanciers who may not be so aware of
the club to become members. It was proposed by M Dickinson and seconded by Alan Turner that Aurel be
elected to the Committee and all were in favour. Jill Rogers welcomed Aurel to the Committee and said
that his ideas would be presented to the Committee for discussion at the next meeting.
Secretary/Treasurer: Mrs Clare Norman, Auditor: Mrs Jill Rogers. Finally, it was agreed to destroy
outdated paperwork.
For the evenings celebrations the Master of Ceremonies was Robbie Hooper who started off proceedings
by welcoming everyone and thanking them for attending the BBC presentation dinner for 2023. He said
that first of all, Jill Rogers would like to read a message from Clare Norman. Jill read out Clare’s message
and said that we all no doubt wished Clare a speedy recovery and were all thinking about her at this time.
Jill then announced a Royal toast to the King & Queen.
Dinner was served and it was an excellent meal with many comments to say how people enjoyed it.
After dinner Robbie announced the President's address:
Jill mentioned about racing not being easy, north east winds early on and losses being high for 2023.
Pleasing to see that a different loft had won each race and that four different sections were also
represented in the winners of the seven races. It was lovely to see that Guernsey members were able to
send from the Channel Islands to Bordeaux this year and how much we appreciated their perseverance and
support of the club.
Thanks to marking station I/Cs and helpers, convoyers, everyone who works so hard for the club all year.
Special thank you tonight to Terry Peart, Robbie Hooper, Anne and Jane for all their hard work making
sure the presentation went smoothly and thanks to everyone for coming along and have a great evening
and please support the club as much as possible in 2024.
Doug Gatland then responded on behalf of the prize winners saying thank you to Jill, Clare and everyone
else and congratulations to all prize winners and looking forward to 2024.
Then the DJ took over with dancing until 12.30am with a brief interlude for the raffle.
Finally I would like to say a big thank you to Robbie, Anne, Jane and Jill who made your evening so
special for you and a massive thank you to everyone who has contacted me and sent cards and gifts, it was
very much appreciated.
