I have the final two race reports of the 2020 young bird season starting at Skinningrove H/S where the loft of the late Gordon “Shang” Peirson & sons Sack & Jim along with the very helpful Trevor McConnell & son Bobby timed a couple of their squad to win a very impressive 1st Club, 1st and 7th East Cleveland Federation. With Sack, Jim, Trevor & Bobby's pole position winner being a chequer Heremans Ceusters cock bred out of Anthony Thompson stock recording a top vel of 1524, the winning cock is chalking for the second time after netting 6th Club, 13th Fed Oakham out of 1,249 birds. The lad's second timer was a blue Dirk van den Bulck hen on 1502 bred out of their Anthony Thompson x Stuart Watson stock who is the same way bred as their 2019 Loftus Championship Club Breeder/Buyer winner. The partnership of Tich Richards & Alice Marsay potted 4th Club, 4th and 16th Fed on 1514 and 1491 with Tich and granddaughter Alice second timer being a chequer hen the previous scorer of 2nd Club Bubwith (2) when beaten by her 1st Club winning loftmate. The hen is out of a cock gifted to them by Derek Winspear & son Mark of Skelton Green and the dam is a chequer hen with the pair breeding a 1st Club, 1st Fed winner last season while it's nestmate took 2nd Club, 2nd Fed from the 2019 young bird National and won 1st Club, 1st Fed Oakham (2) this year. B & K Simpson had a chequer and a blue Dirk van den Bulck hen bred by Bob Fenech of Norfolk fame on the clock to pot 6th and 13th Fed on 1510 and 1595. Mike Prokopowicz & son Less timed two of their team to notch up 10th and 11th Fed on 1498 and 1495.
The Brotton H/S loft of Frank & Brenda Reilly, son Wayne and helper Peter Marshall got back to their winning ways after timing a trio of youngsters to win a belting 1st, 2nd, 4th Club, with top spot being won by a blue flipey Louis van Theelan x Heremans Ceusters hen achieving 1499 to lift 9th Fed. The blue card was chalked up by a blue Heremans Ceusters x Louis van Theelan hen on 1493.5 to go onto pot 15th Fed while the yellow card was taken by a blue Louis van Theelan x Van Loon out of the 1st UNC winning “Little Elsie” to see off an impressive performance. Dave Storr notched up 3rd and 5th Club while Mr & Mrs Golly & Linda Peirson & Tubby Purver timed a blue hen bred from their own stock to claim 6th Club and 1pt.
Onto the Brotton 6 Bird Club where the inform loft of Frank & Brenda Reilly, son Wayne and Peter Marshall recorded their second win of the day after timing three of their entries to win 1st, 3rd and 6th Club, with the red card winning blue Heremans x Ceusters hen achieving 1493.6 for 16th Fed. The green card was awarded to a blue Louis van Theelan x Heremans Ceusters hen and she was followed by a blue Louis Thijs hen. Mr & Mrs Bob & Babs Moore timed two Miller Bros & Kyle of Boldon fame grizzle hens to lift a nice 2nd and 4th Club; while Mrs & Mrs Golly & Linda Peirson & Tubby Purver timed a blue hen out of their stock to pocket 5th Club and 2pts.
Don Smith & Dtr returned to the winners' enclosure at Boosbeck H/S winning 1st, 2nd and 3rd Club with the red card winner being bred by Tut Thompson; Tut was the one time partner of the late Terry Jones who was Club Secretary of Boosbeck for a number of years, with the two lads flying as Thompson & Jones. Terry was very well respected in the area and flew a good pigeon with Tut and was a brilliant Secretary. Don's blue and green card potters with both home-bred Janssens.
The Skelton Green partnership of Bill Chapman, sons Steve & Colin and the late Tommy Swinburne win for the second week running after timing two birds to win 1st and 2nd Club, with the red card winning youngster that won 1st Club. 20th Fed the previous week out of Huntingdon achieving a pole position vel of 1491 for 17th Fed and the blue card potter taking 23rd Fed. Keith & Matty Arkless of Loftus H/S the winners of 1st Club, 4th Fed Huntingdon rack up their second win on the spin winning 1st Club, 12th Fed.

Steve & Colin Chapman of Bill Chapman, Sons & Swinburne Skelton Green H/S winners of 1st Club, 20th Fed Huntingdon and 1st, 2nd Club, 17th, 23rd Fed Chelmsford. With Keith Arkless of K & M Arkless Loftus H/S winners of 1st Club, 4th Fed Huntingdon; 1st Club, 12th Fed Chelmsford, 1st and 2nd Club, 4th and 8th Fed Maidstone National.
The Billingham T U H/S partnership of Brian Atkinson & Keith Perkins record their third young bird win of the season after timing a couple of hens 6 seconds apart to win a cracking 1st and 2nd Club from 60 birds, 1st and 2nd Teesside Federation with vels of 1476.5, 1475.9. With Brian & Keith's well-fancied pole position Fed winner that was 18th Fed beaten by a loftmate the previous race out of Huntingdon also winning the Fed Nom, three other youngsters were timed with a cock lifting 8th Fed who was 4th Club, 20th Fed Bubwith (2); next came two hens who touched down together to notch up 18th and 19th Fed to round off a good day. The duo's first young bird win was achieved out of the second race Bubwith (2) when 1st Fed was also won from an entry of 770 birds and a week later at Worksop 1st Club, 3rd Fed was won when there was 634 birds away. Tommy Clark & son Gary had four of their entries on the clock to lift 4th Club, 4th, 7th, 11th and 20th Fed; with the yellow card going to their grizzle hen on 1460 that netted 3rd Club, 3rd Fed Oakham beaten by a loftmate that won 1st Club 1st Federation. It's welcome into the frame to Shaun Smith who pockets 4th Club, 6th Fed with a hen on 1421.
The Haverton Hill partnership of Paul Gatley, Graham Harrod & son Dale made it a clean sweep winning the first seven Club positions from 44 birds, 3rd, 5th, 9th 12th, 13th, 14th,16th Fed on 1462, 1429, 1402, 1391, 1383, 1376, 1369. With the red card winning blue cock potting the 10p Club pools and £8.36 while the blue card scoring blue pied cock won the £1 Club pools pocketing £20.25. Nathan Bonar & John Pledger had the next two birds winning 1st and 2nd £5 Ring banking £60.00.
The final race of the season was held on Saturday 19th September when the birds were up and away at 07.50 from the longest young bird race the Maidstone National flying into a very testing North-North-East wind. The Brotton 6 Bird Club partnership of Mr & Mrs Bob & Babs Moore hit winning form in great style after timing no fewer than four of their six entries to win a top notch 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th Club with the duo's pole position winner being the Miller Bros & Kyle grizzle hen who chalked up 2nd Club, 22nd Fed the previous race from Chelmsford; this time the red card winning hen achieved a top vel of 1267 to score a brilliant 3rd East Cleveland Federation. The blue card was awarded to a dark pied hen bred by Ian “Evo” Everington & Frankie Rolands of Dormanstown, North Yorks Fed while Bob & Babs green and yellow card potters were Miller Bros & Kyle grizzle hens to round off a cracking team performance. John Newton & Family are back in the frame to pocket 3pts after timing a couple of nestmates out of their own stock to notch up 5th and 6th Club. The much inform Frank & Brenda Reilly, son Wayne and helper Peter Marshall enjoyed a brilliant clocking day after timing no fewer than six of their team to chalk up a most impressive 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th Club, 9th, 11th, 12th, 15th, 18th, 20th Fed on 1251, 1246.99, 1246.93, 1243, 1238, 1235. With the blue card being awarded to a chequer pied flipey Louis van Theelan x Van Loon out of the partnerships 2018 1st Up North Combine young bird Maidstone National Gold Medal winning “Little Elsie”. The green card was netted by a Soontjen x Mark van den Berg while the yellow was taken by a Louis van Theelan x Heremans Ceusters and then came a red Louis van Theelan x Heremans Ceusters hen and she was followed by a blue Heremans Ceusters x Kicker-Belt hen to round off a cracking loft performance.
Next stop is Boosbeck H/S where David “Ralph” Coates and Craig Clapton ended the season on a winning note after timing a Rauw Sablon to win 1st and then clocked a Huybrechts to chalk up 2nd Club. Don Smith & Dtr take 3rd Club with the green card potting youngster being bred by Don's good friend Andrew Landers of Helmsley. The Loftus H/S partnership of Keith & Matty Arkless record a hat-trick of wins after Keith and son Matty timed a couple of their inform team to win an impressive 1st and 2nd Club, 4th and 8th Fed with vels of 1257 and 1254.
Paul Gatley, Graham Harrod & son Dale racked up their second win on the bounce after timing four cocks and two hens to win 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th Club at Haverton Hill out of 71 birds and a cracking 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 16th, 18th Teesside Federation from 156 birds with vels of 1247, 1214, 1209, 1200, 1175, 1163. The lad's winner nets the 10p Club pools claiming £8.72; a later birds was timed to take 2nd £5 Ring and £20. Andrew “Jappa” Appleton & Paul “ Skunky” Longstaff and helper Alby Woodward chalked up 2nd Club, 50p Club pools netting £19.75, 3rd Fed and 2nd Fed pools lifting £40 with a vel of 1224. Nathan Bonar & John Pledger timed a trio of youngsters to lift 13th, 14th, 15th Fed on 1182, 1178, 1175 with the first timer being a dark pied cock who netted 3rd Club, 20th Fed Oakham; this time he wins the £1 Club pools and £16. He was followed by a chequer cock who wins the £5 Ring and £45 and next came a blue pied cock that potted 15th Fed Bubwith (2) beaten by three loftmates. Robert Barron wins the Club Nom pocketing £42 which I'm sure will be well spent. The £25 Gold Ring was won by Pearce, Daughter & O'Donnell of Stockton on 1212 wining £900; while 2nd went to the late Wyn Cole, Wheatley & Grandson achieving 1199 pocketing £450. Brian Atkinson & Keith Perkins takes 3rd on 1183 to claim £275 with the partnership of the late Les Wellburn & sons Les & Derek being £125 better off by taking 4th on 967; while Nathan Bonar & John Pledger claimed the £75 5th prize on 958 to round off a very successful event.

Brain Atkinson & Keith Perkins chalk up 2nd Club, 12th Fed on 1183 with the hen that was 2nd Club, 2nd Fed Chelmsford beaten by a loftmate. Shaun Smith is in the frame for the second race running taking 4th Club, 20th Fed winning the Fed Nom on 1148.
