On Saturday 18th July the Up North Combine chief convoyer Peter Maw liberated the 606 members convoy of 11,219 from the Folkestone (2) National at 6.30am flying into a South-West wind. It turned out to be a fantastic race for the Skinningrove H/S partnership of the late Gordon (Shang) Peirson MBE & sons Sack & Jim and their two helpers Trevor & Bobby McConnell, who timed three of their team to win a brilliant 1st and 3rd Club, 1st and 3rd East Cleveland Federation from a 54 members entry of 906 birds, 8th and 23rd Group 3 out of 4,277 birds, 12th, 61st and 248th Up North Combine. With the pole position winner being a yearling blue Heremans Ceusters x Dirk Van Den Bulck cock of D & G Wright of Northumberland Federation crossed with Stuart Watson of South Bank bloodlines. This was the lad's first win of the season and a top drawer one at that, they were not happy with how their birds performed from the Folkestone (1) National race so started to get their birds sorted out, this meaning they missed the Oakham (2) and Roye (1) races that were held on the same weekend in between the two Folkestone National races. By doing what they did has proved they did everything right because they have come back smelling of roses and gives them a chance to perform well again from the final old bird races.
