WARWICKSHIRE WITTERINGS
DREW CALLAN
Frome - April 2012
The second race of the federation programme saw us basketing the birds for a race out of Frome, which I think was a new race point for the federation and is around 95 miles to the middle of the fed. Saturday morning dawned dry and bright and it was a case of letting the air warm up a bit and finding out what other feds along the line were doing whilst the birds were resting up in the transporter. There were a lot of welsh birds along he M4 corridor and thanks to a combination of good communication and basic maths we were in a position to drop flaps at 8.15 to get the birds on their way home.
The 1158 birds sent by 71 members made light work of the job and the eastern side birds took full advantage of the conditions. As with last week the boys in Monsell club took the lion's share, claiming 18 of the top 20 positions in the federation. Taking the top 2 in the federation and putting a total of 11 in the first 20 is that man again Mick O'Rourke. He had the same 08 cock come again to top the fed for the second week running on velocity of 1678, and I’m sure that Treble 333 has other honours to his name as he has been around for a bit and will have had to work hard to keep his box from some young pretender. As with last week he had some company with a clock full of loft mates to keep him company with one of them scoring 2nd Federation on 1676. Close on his heels is Mick Slater and this week he is less than 500 yards behind with a vey good bird and he had another good team performance putting 4 birds in the top 20 of the result, taking 11th, 12th and 20th Fed. The next 7 results were secured by a batch of birds running over the pads at the O'Rourke loft again with velocities ranging from 1676 to 1664. Three other Monsell members Dawkins and Allen, Dalby Bros and M Lovell all get abird each in the frame on velocities of 1638.9, 1638.3 and 1631 for 16th, 17th and 18th Fed. It was up to the lofts of Lloyd bros on 1640 for 14th fed and K Arnold and Son on 1631 for 19th Fed to stop a complete whitewash.
This is what the top 10 looks like:

The Pickering loft are in pole position this week with a 3 year old Koopman cock doing the honours. Next 2 positions go to the in form loft of J Burton who clocked 2 Geveart x Deemester cocks who at 4 and 2 years old have a wealth of experience but just not enough on the day to beat the older and more experienced Koopman cock.

Robbie takes the first 2 this week with a pencil Gervaert widowhood cock closely followed by a soontjens based cock. No details on Gerald's bird but he does have a good family of Van Reets so it could be one of those.

That’s it for this week. Could I ask all clubs if they could email a result to me by Tuesday with details (if possible) on the top 3 in each club. It's just that Sunday night is bath night and my wife would rather see me clean than typing up results.
