PIGEON TOPICS

At Leicester with Rosyth RPC the 136 birds were away at 6.15 am into a no wind situation. However this obviously changed to north east. The winners this time were George and Brian Hunter with a yearling chq hen of Emeil Deweert lines. 2nd Neil Jarvie with a yearling blue Janssen hen sent on overdue eggs. 3rd John Skelton with a yearling chq cock of De Baere lines on dummy eggs. 4th Louie Mitchell with a yearling red hen. Sire won Wanstead Flats and was of Jan Theelan lines. While the dam was the Joe Murphy Challenge bird!

From Billericay, a new racepoint, John Skelton is the winner with a 2yo De Baere hen racing to a small young bird. 2nd was Louie Mitchell with a yearling red Busschaert cock on 10 day eggs. The sire of this one has 3 firsts. In 3rd place was John Fyall with a 2yo blue cock sent feeding a big young bird. This pigeon won BIS at the Lauriston Open show and is of Van Loon lines. Secy Gordon Cree was 4th with a home bred yearling chq hen sent spare. On her four previous races this one was either first or second to the loft being quite consistent. However on her last race previous to Billericay she went AWOL! She was reported in Belfast and was eventually released by the fancier in Ireland when the weather was better (there’s a laugh) with a chance or reaching home. However Gordon was in fact out sea fishing in the Irish sea at the time of the hens departure. Gordon was a bit surprised as it was none too good out there. When Gordon got back home the pigeon was lying down on the aviary quite content waiting to be let in! Makes you laugh doesn’t it. Ah well it takes all sorts to make a race!
