From Berwick with Rosyth RPC the birds were away into a south wind and a fairly fast race ensued. The race winner was Louie Mitchell with a 2yo blue cock sent on the drive. This one now has 4 firsts to his credit! He was bred by Jim Bambling from Coxhoe in the North of England! 2nd was Andy Hutchison with a 4yo blue pied cock sent sitting 10 days of Staf Van Reet lines. Louie Mitchell was in 3rd with a yearling mealy cock also on the drive bred from Jim Doig of Cardenden birds. John Skelton was 4th with a 2yo chq hen sent on dummy eggs and is of Lowick Bros lines.
From Rosyth’s Arras race John Skelton was first with a 2yo dark chq hen of Lowick Bros lines on dummy eggs. John’s next one was also a Lowick Bros 2yo dark chq hen also on dummy eggs. Next was yours truly with a yearling mealy hen sent sitting 14 days. She is from the inbred Eric Fox cock I was gifted by my good mate John Clark from Airdrie. The dam won Wanstead Flats in 2009. John Skelton was also 4th with a 2yo dark chq De Baere cock also sent to the race on dummy eggs!
One day while training ybs down the A1 I went in to see Wilf Flockhart of Tranent on the way back home. We were just talking about the pigeons and all the usual stuff surrounding them over a coffee. It was then than Wilf reminded me that he was organising a late-bred sale later this month. So I now have the details from the man himself.
This young bird sale will be in aid of Ward One Oncology Department in Edinburgh’s Western General Hospital. The sale will take place on Sunday 26th August and the venue is Loanhead Miners club with viewing at 6pm and sale kicking off at 7pm. The very experienced Tam McCleod will be doing the honours here auctioning youngsters from some of the very best lofts around Scotland, both in the SNRPC & SNFC. There will also be a fantastic raffle taking place and I know two of the top prizes will be well worth it to the lucky winners, especially the ladies! Someone will have fun!!!
Wilf would sincerely like to thank everyone in advance for their help and generosity shown to him for this worthy cause! I have seen the sale list and it’s very impressive to say the least. Should be something there for everyone. Watch out for the advert in BHW. You know where to be, good luck to the bidders!
