I have said it more than once on here, but some of the people this sport attracts would be best off doing something else, and the sport would be better off without them. I suppose it reflects the nastiness and greed of our society in many ways, but that is not an excuse. Our desire to be just. To be fair, regardless. That which makes us human. Oh,I don' t know. I really do not. Sportsmanship is lacking in so many I wonder do they even appreciate the concept. Not only do they ruin it for others, they sicken even the most hardened of men. They thrive on adversity, and when there is none, they create it. Were it not for the destruction they leave in their wake they would walk this earth un-noticed.

A few local pics and results to get this week’s column of its heels. Peter Whelan in the red top is holding his good racing cock "Lamb Chops" winner of the Super Club and the South Leinster Fed from Barleycove. The one and only Bim Connors with his G-son ( also called Bim) holding the winners of 1st & 2nd Club and Super Club from Barleycove. The winning hen, now called, "Rubber Bandit", (she was, incidentally, on ETS) is a Jan Arden cross that has been flying exceptionally well all season for Bim and won the Super Club in a canter. Bim is a deserved winner as he has been a tireless worker for the sport for over 40 years. Never a bad word for anyone. He is another convert from the North Road and is no hurry to return.

In the blue corner is Pat Maher from Dungarvan holding the winner of 1st Federation Talbenny. This game hen was also the fastest of the entire convoy of over 20,000 pigeons. Her G Dam was a winner of 1st National Penzance for Pat. Also shown is the clubhouse in New Ross the happy group consisting of Joe O Neill, Peter Power, Stephen Butler and John Tobin are seated with the one and only Keith Gardiner on his knees in gratitude as he had just won the yearling national from Girvan that very day. Keith is having an outstanding season and has been running riot on the last few weeks.

I have been receiving reports of a pretty nasty upper respiratory tract illness going the rounds which seems to resist all attempts at clearance. I noted Bert Brasapenning commenting on it. Symptoms include, scratching,. redness of the mouth, ruffled feather on the forehead, birds fading and losing weight. Similar to chlamydia in some ways but resistant to the normal treatments. I have been asked to mention it in the hope (by the fancier who contacted me) that someone out these will know something.
It's a busy period on the home front with the move to the new house underway. The young bird team I bred are a little hardy for transplant, and no doubt some will go awry, but we can only do what we can do. Another week or so the new young bird loft will be up and birds moved. Doesn't allow a great deal of time for writing at the moment so it's the bare bones for this week. Next week, I will update on what has been happening with the IHUNFC races.
