ROSE OF THE SHIRES

Raunds
Over in the Raunds club "new kid on the block" Phil Lane had all but spent the snowball money by the time he sent his duplicted result in from Kempston, only to find that the wily old Corby Coyote Mick Lawless had clocked one to beat him by a couple of yards.  Mick's winner is a Billy Briggs SVR x Willy Thas 2 year old cock that flew well last year but this was his first red card.  Phil's eventual runner up was none other than his famous "66" who just missed out on his 5th or 6th red card.  The bird was bred from a hen bought in from the Telford show x one of Phil's retired SVR racers. This 2 year old has already won in the Kempston club this year from Wetherby where he was also 2nd in the Raunds club.  He showed his potential when topping the Fed from a hard Whitley Bay event as a young bird in 07 and being 3rd Amal into the bargain.  Phil did ask when he would cease to be "the new kid on the block".  With the way the fancy is going and the scarcity of new members I didn't have the heart to tell him. Bless. Robin and Pat Hallybone slipped "Old Faithful", a Braspenning 5 year old cock bird, into 3rd place making, I think, their first foray into nose bleed territory this season though the bird has several performances to its credit and appears to be hitting form at the right time.
Pete Madejczyk kept up his early season form in 4th with the nest mate to last weeks winner.  The octogenarian maestro did enough to ensure the pools finished up in his trousers!

Scotch Corner  2-05-09
In the Raunds club, Pete Madejczyk took his 2nd red card of the season, from Scotch Corner wHere 9 members sent 135 birds. The south west wind should have ensured a steady fly, but at 1510ypm it was obvious the birds had it a little easier than anticipated. Pete's winner was another of his van Reet family, that seem to like his management system. The dam was 2nd fed Fraserburgh and the sire 1st fed from the same race point. This young cock flew consistently last year as a baby. Mr & Mrs Eddie Calver finished 2nd club, just a couple of yards behind Pete on 1508. Their bird goes back to a Mick Lawless gift cock bird, through his late brother John's stock, crossed with a Jos Soontjen hen from the Frank Sheader loft at Scarborough. The sire topped the fed from Berwick last year, and had 4th club from Fraserburgh to boot. Eddie took the pool's to the tune of £12. 10ypm behind, see's Mick Lawless himself with a cock that topped the fed from Fraserburgh last year. This cock has several other cards to it's credit, and is the product of a Gabby Vandebeale when paired to a Shearsby of Corby fame Catrysse hen. Making up for the top four is Adrian Webb, who has been there or thereabouts all season with a 2yr old blue hen, making it's debut in the prize ring.

Corby - Morpeth
From Corby club 8 members, sent 93 birds to Morpeth. Mr & Mrs Stanton took 1st club, with a van Reet hen doing 1165. R Fairbairn netted 2nd and 3rd club, with two van Reet cock's- doing 1121/1106.

Wellingborough North Road - Morpeth
Out of W.N.R 7 members sent 75 bird's to the racepoint at Morpeth. W.F.Line/Son/G.Son took 1st club, doing 1130. "Laurel & Hardys" winning bird was a grizzle cock. He was bred off a Grizzle cock, and a hen called "Milly". Both sides are Mick Smith "Wymington Trios" blood line. It's the first time this cock bird has been in the card's, but has been a steady bird. Alan "Pensioner" Neville took 2nd club, doing 1073. "Pensioner" Neville's 3yr old Blue hen "Miss Wisken", has won many card's over her 3yr's. She was bred by Stu Wisken.  Dave "Darn Good" Gent netted the 3rd & 4th club, doing 1070/1069. "Darn Goods" 3rd club was a Blue cock, bred off Mr & Mrs Stanton stock. He was a fed winner as a baby. His 4th place was a Blue Pied cock, has won alot of club/fed card's- self and Brian " Big Man" Lawrence stock. Alan "Pensioner" Neville put his long sock's away this week, as "Darn Good" Gent won the club pools. Still alot of birds missing in W.N.R.

The weather doesn't look very promising for next week's race. We can but HOPE! they have got it wrong.
