Record breaking season for Ron Williamson – 5 x 1st Open NIPA

After five races in Ireland the NIPA birds moved on to Talbenny in South Wales, a point that has been used for several years. Over 14,000 birds were liberated on Saturday 11th July at 9.00am in a Lt North wind. As usual a big number of birds made good time but quite a few were still missing at race checking. The big news again comes from Newry City where record breaker Ronnie Williamson is setting a pace that even he himself must think is a dream. It has been a dream season to date, the big man  has already exceeded 70 x 1st Open NIPA and has won almost everything in the sport including the Kings Cup which he told me was the best of all and Fancier of the Year many times. It the six races flown he has topped the Mighty NIPA FIVE Times. 1st Open Tullamore 695/22,369 vel 1539, 1st Open Gowran Park 741/24,972 vel 1339, 1st Open Corrin (2) 742/21,265 vel 1467, 1st Open Skibbereen OB Nat 419/4,235 vel 1509, and 1st Open Talbenny 712/14,232 vel 1398. Records are set to be broken, this latest performance has smashed anything I have ever seen. Ronie is KING.

The Old Bird Inland National was flown from Skibbereen on Monday 6th July the birds having been marked early the previous day. Overall winner was Ron Williamson from Newry & District, his 4th win in the five races flown to date. Additional Centres were added for this year to assist with the race marking, and appears to have been a good success and well done to all concerned who carried out the work under the new regulations.
