NIPA Race Report on Corrin - Adie reports Sect A, B, E & H

Derry Lofts to the fore in the Mighty NIPA - Double 1st Open from Corrin!

It’s not often you have a headline like this, the furthest flying lofts within the Mighty NIPA top the Open and a superb Achievement it is without a shadow of doubt.

Overall looking through the result of the Corrin Race you have 7 x First Section Winners within the first 27 positions in the NIPA Open. Corrin was the destination for the NIPA, a race point and race that incorporated the 5 Bird Championship. It’s a race I personally have always thought highly off, selecting your top 5 picks from your ever-impressive Y/Bird team. Birdage continues to be down on previous seasons, on the upside, we could see some record sales for the feed men over the winter months and subsequently increased birdage moving forward into the NIPA 2026 O/Bird programme, time will tell.

Anthony McCrudden is the man leading the charge this week, topping the Mighty NIPA Open flying 203 miles into the heart off Derry City. Anthony clocked his Blue White Flight Hen at 12.26, little did he know at that time he would be the NIPA Open Winner. It’s the best of the best-off Distance Blood something required flying the longest route within the NIPA. The winner in question is a ½ sister to Bobby Coyles “Derry Girl” runner-up from Penzance who also flew France difficult and all that it was in 2025. She is also a ½ sister to 31 st Open St Malo for Billy Begley in 2023. Sire is a good one also ½ brother to a couple of pigeons timed from St Malo by Anthony himself in 2021 and 2022 finishing 22 nd and 129 th Open respectively. Well Done Anthony who puts this recent success once again down to his long-established family of honest hard-working pigeons.

It was a day for the Derry Area with current NIPA Chairman Pat McLaughlin winning the NIPA 5 Bird Y/Bird Corrin Open, doing so with his Section winning hen from last week. Pat has named his Open winner “Seany’s Girl” after his cousin and fellow fancier Sean McGrotty who tragically died 9 years ago. “Seany’s Girl” was clocked at 12.30hrs flying 206 miles, Pat was telling me that this Blue Hen was in great form and sitting 12 days before departing for Corrin. Sire is down from a cock bred by Harkness Rose Bowl winning loft of Mark Eubanks, Banbridge, when paired to hen from his late cousin Sean, Dam of the Open Winner is down from an Eric Limbourg Cock when paired to a hen on loan from fellow Clubmate John McGettigan, Pat says this hen is probably his best breeding hen over the years. Well done Pat on your success yet again and thanks for all your help.

P.S just while on the 5 Bird Open, I note that Rafferty & Toman win the Gilford Club, finishing 14 th Section and 44 th Open with “Generous” the NIPA Open winner from Cloughmartin a couple of weeks back. Super performance.

Section Success for Thompson & Lunn

Thompson & Lunn have been a formidable partnership over the last few years flying within Section E of the Mighty NIPA. Darren & Debbie have the youngsters in superb form flying with the Newry City Invitation, there is something to be said about having a lady about the loft. It’s not often you report that a 1 st & 2 nd Club, 1 st & 2 nd Section arriving together are a class pair of nest mates. Pure Luc Vervoorts breeding, this a new family that Darren & Debbie have brought in. Sire is from the De Zot lines sourced from Keiran McVeigh and the Dam a class article sourced from the partnerships good friend Alex Spence from Birmingham, who has the best direct from Nicole and Luc Vervoort. Success has just flowed for the partnership over the last few days having been confirmed winners of the Dromara HPS Gold Ring Race and Grizzle Race. Firstly, the Grizzle Derby Winner finishing 2 nd Club, (beat by the Gold Ring Winner) finishing 23 rd Section E 3,429 pigeons and 25 th Open NIPA 9,967 pigeons. Breeding of the Grizzle Derby winner is pure Eric Ceulemans which was purchased from our yearly trip away, notably this winner was mated to this week’s Section Winner. Now for the Dromara HPS Gold Ring Winner for the Thompson & Lunn partnership collecting a cool £1200 finishing 1 st Club, 4 th Section E 3,429pigeons and 5 th Open NIPA 9,967 pigeons competing. Breeding, Sire a great racing cock with some 7 x Open & Section Diplomas not surprising coming direct from a Van Den Bulck cock raced by Chris Carson and bought by us during his reduction sale a winner of 8 x Section and Open Diplomas. Dam being a consistent racer for us from a good Cheq Pied Cock Van Den Bulck bred for the partnership from Jeff Greenaway him being a winner of 5 x 1 st Club Newry City. Congrats to Darren & Debbie on a superb season to date.
