Mid Cheshire
The racing has been reasonably good for most fanciers so far to the North West and I am hearing that the returns are better than average for the early part of the year. The velocities have been 1300/1500/1800ypm so they are not yet hard races but as I pen these notes the weather for the coming weekend a North-East wind is forecast so that looks like being a bit harder of a race.
Middlewich fanciers Mr & Mrs Dave Healey took the red card in the Mangotsfield race with a 2yo blue w/f hen raced on the widowhood recording a vel of 1783ypm, Dave was saying that they have no natural pigeons at all. W Wilson & Son are next on the list after clocking up 1774ypm ahead of 3rd placed Alan Groom on 1772ypm, I had hoped that the club were going to have a PO but no luck this year.
Over at Acton Bridge 7 members sent 205 birds to Mangotsfield when they were liberated at 10.45am in a south wind with the birds making light work of it doing over 1800ypm. Once again, the first 4 positions go to Curtis-Wall-Lunt starting with a yearling hen who is a granddaughter of the famous “Box 9 Pair” she was 3rd fed Worchester 1116birds two weeks earlier. 2nd is “Super 65” this cock was not raced as a young bird but he still has 3x1st federations. 3rd is “856” a daughter of the breeding hen known as “Miss Dumbledore” who is a direct daughter of the outstanding breeders the “Merlin Pair” 4th is “66” a yearling cock who is a son of “Socretes” of Leo Heremans. These birds are 12th 13th 14th in the Mid Cheshire fed where 69 members sent 1,446 birds that saw W & P Brown top the list.
I think it is worth a mention for the Kingsway club with the same fed because nowadays it is not very often that we see clubs, they saw an entry of 604 birds from 21 members with Mr & Mrs Sylvester leading the way. This is what clubs used to be like but there are few about now, still some but not as many as there used to be.
The Middlewich 5B were at Bath when 12 members entered 149 birds to be liberated at 11-15am in a South, south East wind. 1st goes to Alan Woodcock with a 2yo chequer cock on 1809ypm also collecting 5th fed. 2nd & 4th go to W Wilson & Son who clocked a 2yo dark cock and also a chequer cock they are 6th & 9th fed on 1800/1794ypm. 3rd are Mr & Mrs Dudley Niblett who saw home a 2yo chequer cock on 1794yppm for 8th fed. The club are racing with the South West Cheshire Fed where 75 sent 1134birds which saw Dave & Baz Mellor top the list on 1836ypm.
