Sunday 14th June at 8.30am
It has been an odd start to the season with different controller’s making different decisions. Looking at the races so far, the Saturday’s have been the best racing days. Each Thursday I talk to Geoff Bebbington about the weekend and on both occasions, we have said Saturday looks the better racing day, but some controllers have thought otherwise. Even so both Saturdays’ have turned out to be good racing days with results to prove that point. The controller’s have a tough job and need to make quick decisions, they are right more often than not.
The second weekend’s racing saw a good turnout from fanciers in this area with the BICC who had an entry of over 7,400 birds, I don’t know what is the most they have sent but this race looks good to me. And probably this was the best support the club have had from this area sending 16 crates between the two marking stations, let us hope they keep it up, it would be good for racing into this area. If they do, I see this area eventually having a 1st International winner. This race looked a good bet for a winner up here, but as the day went Geoff was saying the wind changed into the North East which would set them back with it being at the home end. The numbers are probably because fanciers are short on channel racing and there are a lot up here who are looking for that type of racing. They went on the Saturday and saw the winning velocity of over 2200ypm fanciers in the North West heading towards 1800ypm.
What do I see for today Sunday the 14th June, well as I sit here it looks dull and overcast outside? What makes it worse is there is next to no wind to move the clouds along, but it is only 8.30am so there is time yet for the clouds to move on.
