Around Middlewich

The channel races into Middlewich are really dropping off and some have said for this latest weekend’s race it was the marking on Wednesday as opposed to Thursday did put some off sending. The Middlewich 2B sends far less than they used to do but there are still some members who like this club and are always there. The latest race from Messac saw long time winner Joe Glover take the red card with a 3yo on 1114ypm. Sid Latham, Son & Daughter are next recording a vel. of 1096ypm also with a 3yo. Ron Woodward has always liked his channel races including the 2B where he finishes 3rd on 1023ypm with a 2yo. Colin Lindop also clocked a 2yo in 4th recording 918ypm.

The Middlewich 5B were at Frome for their latest race when 18 members sent 143 birds that were liberated at 9.45am the increased birdage probably down to the channel races that are down or not sending at all. Alan Woodcock took the top two positions with a yearling chequer cock and a 2yo dark cock recording vels. of 1328/1305ypm they also come into the fed result in 2nd & 9th positions. Mark & Heather Smith are 3rd club 17th fed on 1295ypm after seeing home a 4yo blue cock who takes the first share of the pools. 4th club 18th fed go to Ken & Stan Bosson who saw home a 2yo blue pied cock on 1295ypm. The last of the pools go to Jimmy Smith.

The old bird racing season is now more or less finished but these last races have not been what we would have wanted, it would have been nice to finish the old birds on a high but that was not to be. In the Middlewich FC Cheltenham race that saw Alan Groom who clocked a fancied 3yo blue cock on 1569ypm to collect the first share of pools and also 16th fed when 44 sent 496 birds, with the channel racing now on the numbers do drop down. 2nd & 3rd go to Mr & Mrs Dave Healey who saw home a yearling and a 2yo both blue cocks both being on 1541ypm. 4th sees another prize going the way of Mark & Heather Smith who clocked another of their pensioners, this time a 7yo blue cock on 1540ypm to collect the second share of pools.

In the Middlewich 5B race from Bath 4 when 9 sent 78 birds with the top two positions going to Alan Woodcock who is also 1st & 6th fed recording vels of 1636/1621ypm. Alan Groom is having a good spell and comes in 3rd club 14th fed after seeing home a 3yo blue cock who also picks up the first pools on 1582ypm. Ken & Stan Bosson are 4th with a 3yo chequer cock on 1544ypm.
