Around Middlewich
This season has probably been one of the worst for losses with the young birds, WHY we would need a crystal ball to find that out because there could be a combination of many reasons.
Some years all those reasons happen together giving us more losses than we need and why this happens we will never know but it looks to have happened this year. Yes we all have our own views and that is what makes the sport so interesting, one thing is for sure and that is the lofts that look at the weather patterns and makes a decision to leave them at home are the ones who benefit with better teams.
It is a fact that no matter what the weather forecast may be for the weekend some fanciers will send and suffer the consequences just to get a race. Having said that we are at the stage in the season
where many have shut up shop because they need their young birds to fill the boxes in the old bird sections. Most would rather go into the following season with a stronger team of old birds than risk
losing them in the last few races of a young bird season. If you like young bird racing and don't want to be competitive in the old races that is fine but remember old bird racing is for as many years
as any particular fancier can keep their birds in the right condition to keep going. Whereas young bird racing is built on the connection between the fancier and youngsters, the love of home is
very powerful at that stage in their lives.
The racing continues to some suffering but the latest race for the Middlewich FC saw a closer race when Ron Woodward top the list with a blue hen on 1256ypm with 2nd 3rd & 4th going to W Wilson & son
who are having a good season recording vels. of 1250/1249/1236ypm in this race with a blue cock, red cock and blue w/f hen. None from the club made the fed result this week
where Derek Rooney topped the list when 52 sent 706 birds liberated at 8.30am. This is the closest young bird race I have seen this year in the fed with just 22yds separating the first 20 birds.
The Middlewich 5B race from Frome saw a big reduction in members and birds when the top two positions went to Ken & Stan Bosson with a blue pied and blue both hens
recording vels of 1396/1315ypm ending up 10th fed. Mr & Mrs Dave Healey are 3rd on 1305ypm with a blue hen ahead of Ted Carson who saw home a blue cock recording a vel. of 1291ypm.
I have just heard that the Government in Belgium have decreed no sport or pastime involving horses dogs cats will take place where temperature of 30c or more and when I heard this
they were 37/38c so no racing that weekend. The fanciers are now worried about next year with PAU. Perpignan, Marseille etc. Races as in July / August. 30c plus common
at these liberation points .
