Around Middlewich

Looking at the numbers entered in recent weeks it looks like most fanciers called it a day for this years racing after a disastrous season with losses and that is with old and young birds, it makes me wonder how long pigeon racing can sustain such losses. I once read a report on how many losses there were for the fanciers in Malta and now we are beginning to know how they feel.

In the latest race for the Middlewich FC members from Portland the top two positions went to Ron Woodward with a chequer hen and blue hen recording vels of 1598/1591ypm. Ron's two winners ended up 9th & 10th fed when the top 3 positions went to Carl Rowledge who had a really good day also winning the breeder/buyer with one of his own. Carl was also 2nd with one bred by Jimmy Bennett whose pigeons are never far away in these races and was also 3rd with one bred by Peter & Dawn Latham. This was also a good day for Peter & Dawn who were 3rd with a chequer cock on 1533ypm while W Wilson & Son are next after clocking a red hen on 1520ypm followed by Sid Latham, Son & Daughter who saw home a mealy pied hen on 1492ypm.

In the Middlewich 5B also from Portland with a later lib the birds made better time when Ron Woodward did the double winning both clubs, this one was won with a dark cock on 1684ypm with a blue pied hen also from Ron's loft coming home 4th on 1635ypm also finishing 19th fed. 2nd & 3rd go to Ken & Stan Bosson with a blue pied and chequer both being cocks recording vels. of 1639ypm for them both. The racing is over for the local feds and the South West Cheshire Fed saw Mick Stockton win this last race. The Ace birds in the fed are A Williams from Crewe in the best YB class. Mick & Wendy Mellor are 1st & 2nd in the Ace Bird catagory for the old birds inland and the Ace Bird in the channel goes to G & K & C Hitchin.
