The Helping Harvey Appeal Presentation
Young Harvey Watson of Penzance in Cornwall is suffering from a debilitating condition known as Cerebral Palsy. Harvey is related to Penzance fancier Trevor Jenkin as Trevor’s sister, Sandra Watson is Harvey’s grand mother [Nanny]. As a result of his condition Harvey is severely restricted in his activities. However, he has been offered a lifeline to a more normal life in the form of surgery, the only drawback being the cost of the surgery which will not be funded by the NHS.
Not to be deterred, Harvey’s family, led by his mother Tamsin and uncle Trevor Jenkin, set about fund raising activities with the aim of raising the necessary cash estimated at around £25,000, so that Harvey could have the operation and pay for the extensive after care that will be needed to support Harvey and his family once the surgery has been completed.
One of the fund raising activities that has taken place was a sale of pigeons, which is still ongoing, to help raise some cash towards the fund. This sale is taking place on the Elimar web site and all fanciers everywhere are asked to support this worthy cause for one of our own.

An initial presentation of a cheque of monies raised during the first phase of this auction took place on Sunday 26th March. This proved to be a great success. Harvey along with his Mum Tamsin Watson, Dad Steve Watson, sister Layla Watson and Nannie Sandra Watson were the main guests at the presentation. On his arrival at a well attended club room Harvey was pleased to meet many well wishers and he was presented with a little Bear called Trevor by Christine Jenkin, Trevor Jenkin’s wife. It was heart warming to see Harvey’s obvious joy and pleasure at receiving this small gift which he promptly named his “Uncle Trevor Bear " and it will be accompanying Harvey to Bristol when he goes to have his operation.,

At the same time as the presentation to Harvey the Penzance pigeon club held the first of their breeder / buyer auctions. The club had also organised a stall selling pigeon products and supplements that Trevor Jenkin had obtained as donations from firms wishing to donate to the HELPING HARVEY Fund. One other item, was a sale of pigeons donated and sent down free of charge with carriage paid, by Mr Andy Stokes and family. The Stokes family are very good friends of Trevor Jenkin and all proceeds from the sale were donated to the HELPING HARVEY FUND. There was also a young pigeon given to Harvey by the Angwin Family, bred from their outstanding team of Jan Aardens ,based on birds obtained at great expense from the world famous House of Aarden Stud. This was drawn in a raffle on the day of the presentation and raised the sum of £130 towards the fund for Harvey. Young Harvey got his Nannie to buy some tickets as he said “I want to win that pigeon for Uncle Trevor” and he was quite disappointed when Trevor didn't win!
Mick and John Angwin have proved to be a great help to Trevor in sourcing terrific pigeons from some of the country’s top fanciers and then assisting in placing these birds on the Elimar web site. Those fanciers concerned must take great credit in generously donating pigeons from their best pigeons for this worthy cause.
Gary Jacobs the Secretary of the Penzance pigeon club opened the proceedings by welcoming the main guests and during his speech emphasised the importance of supporting Harvey and his family in their time of need. Gary then moved on to auctioning the Breeder /Buyer Birds.
Whilst the auction of the breeder/ buyer pigeons was taking place Harvey’s family were busy totalling up the monies raised and it was then announced that a grand total of £6,141.00 had been raised both on the day and including the monies raised thus far from the auction of pigeons on the Elimar web site. Harvey's Mum and Dad were overwhelmed as was a very emotional Trevor Jenkin.
Many people deserve thanks for their efforts on Harvey’s behalf including Gary Jacobs the club secretary who did a magnificent Job organising the event. Thanks also go to Christine Jenkin and her grand daughter Bethany and Harvey's sister Layla for selling raffle tickets on the day. Also thanks to Alison Angwin and Jess, John Angwin’s wife and daughter for looking after the table selling pigeon medicines etc , and to all Donors and Purchasers of birds. Thank you one and all plus those who generously gave donations.
All in all a great presentation and a huge success, we still have a long way to go and a lot more money to be raised. If any fancier wishes to donate young birds to this great cause please contact;
