NEWS FROM SCOTLAND
Reports by Joe Murphy
Margaret and I are just back from a few weeks in the sun. We again visited Costa del Sol and the weather was excellent, on average 26 to 28 degrees. We did have rain ONE DAY but coming from Scotland you can put up with rain once in two weeks. This was a fine break and helped us recharge our batteries prior to the winter coming in and just to feel the warmth of the sunshine was enough. To show you what a small world it is we bumped into Gwen and George Duthie of Fraserburgh while at the local market (see photo).

Holidaymakers
Even while on holiday life goes on as normal and one of the joyful things that did happen was the birth of Linda and John Tyerman’s grandson named Freddie Mckay Tyerman who weighed in at 7 pounds 15ozs and he is a wee cracker (see photo). He is grandson number 5 and John has also kindly sent me a photo of Jimmy, Alfie and baby Freddie so let’s hope there is at least one ‘doo man’ amongst them! Congratulations to mum and dad as well as gran and granddad and for good measure this week’s joke is very appropriate for the Tyerman family.

Good SNFC Birds
I thought when I came back from holiday that I would have had at least a couple of fanciers sending in details or photographs of their good pigeons that have done well in the SNFC over the past year but alas ‘NO’. However I will continue with highlighting some of these good pigeons and this week I feature two good cocks. The first bird is raced by D Cowan of Cowie in section D. This blue chequer cock has scored twice inland and twice from France and only requires one more section prize to win his Silver Award. As a matter of fact he flew Ypres in 2013 but did not make the result. The second pigeons is a blue bar cock also flown in section D this time by J Hadfield from Blackburn. This cock is like the above cock and has 2 section prizes in inland and 2 from Ypres as well as an open position from Eastbourne and he too could win a Silver Award next year, and like the Cowan pigeon, is one to keep an eye on.

Joe’s Jokes
Six year old Annie returns home from school and says she had her first family planning lesson at school today. Her mother, very interested, asks: "How did it go?" "I nearly died of shame!" she answers. "Sam from over the road says that the stork brings babies. Sally next door said you can buy babies at the orphanage. Pete in my class says you can buy babies at the hospital." Her mother answers laughingly, "But that's no reason to be ashamed." "No, but I can't tell them that we were so poor that you and daddy had to make me yourselves!"
God’s Creation
God was missing for six days and eventually, Michael, the archangel, found him, resting on the seventh day. He inquired, "Where have you been?" God smiled deeply and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds, "Look, Michael, look what I've made." Archangel Michael looked puzzled, and said, "What is it?"
"It's a planet," replied God, "and I've put life on it. I'm going to call it Earth and it's going to be a place to test Balance." "Balance?" inquired Michael, "I'm still confused." God explained, pointing to different parts of Earth. "For example, Northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth, while Southern Europe is going to be poor. Over here I've placed a continent of white people, and over there is a continent of black people. Balance in all things". God continued pointing to different countries. "This one will be extremely hot, while this one will be very cold and covered in ice." The Archangel, impressed by God's work, then pointed to a land area and said, "What's that one?" "That's Wales, the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful mountains, rivers and streams full of salmon and lovely valleys, forests, hills, and fields of green filled with salt marsh sheep. The people from Wales are going to be handsome, modest, intelligent, and humorous, and they are going to travel the world. They will be extremely sociable, hard-working, high achieving, carriers of peace, and producers of good things."
Michael gasped in wonder and admiration, but then asked, "But what about balance, God? You said there would be balance." God smiled, "I will create England next to Wales, wait till you see the fools I put there".
Obituary
Willie Frew of Kirkcaldy: It was with regret that I received the news of the passing of Willie as I have known him from when we moved house to Kirkcaldy in 1984 and joined the Novar club. Willie flew in partnership at that time with his son Archie and they were without doubt one of the top lofts not only in the club but in the Fife Federation and national. They shared a lot of good and bad times with the pigeons and Archie has not only lost a dad but a very good friend. Archie’s son David took up the pigeons and turned out to be a top ‘doo’ man winning his share of top prizes being the under age 18 fancier in the SNFC winning at the age of 15 and 17. He also won 7th & 14th open SNFC Newbury. David was also the under 25 years of age with the SHU and there was not a prouder ‘granddad’ in the whole of Scotland than Willie. As David started a full time job he decided to join his dad and granddad in the partnership and they continued on their winning ways. Unfortunately Willie lost his battle to cancer and as we know this dreaded disease takes no prisoners. We send our heartfelt condolences to Mrs Frew, Archie & Louise, David & Kim on their sad loss.
