MY UNIQUE FEEDING SYSTEM

We give solid and liquid feeds to fuel the birds up for speed/endurance racing to 710 miles Barce. Int. into
Taunton, West Country. The birds have hoppers of GEM G1O pellets before them young and old and on the open loft system. Our special food mix fed on calling in is the following:

JERRY PLUS/SUPERSTAR PLUS/WILLSBRIDGE No.2 MIX/YEAST/HORMOFORM/CONDITIONSEED/

HEMP/PEANUTS/SUNFLOWER HEARTS/VYDEX MVS 30/COLUMBINE OIL /GEM ENERGY OIL/OGO OIL. To this fat/carbohydrate and protein mix we use VYDEX SUPERSIX IN THE WATER ON RETURN FROM THE RACE/AND BUILD UP FOR THE WATER RACES AND BLITZFORM 2 DAYS BEFORE BASKETING. We find that with hard racing, the condition of the birds by JULY with rest periods is excellent and first class young are bred from the stock-all ages range the skies together for hours. A new partnership we aim to evolve the strain and have had 11 birds from Barce. Int. so far, yet try to improve over time. At other times we use Aviform Ultimate in the water, and I used to try Bovril. The strain is versatile and some will win the sprint/middle distances. The system has flair/intuition and originality in its formulation-it works for us-at the end of the day the intrinsic ability of the birds will win through or not if you send em.

TREATING THE COLONY AS ONE

With the control systems of pigeon management in vogue, lets regard the birds in the loft as one whole unit for a change. To the discerning, human eye each bird is a separate entity and life form. Yet in the way the birds exercise and coexist we can see them as an avian organism as one. In this sense they can be flown as a team, trained as such and then the true individuals will emerge or not emerge during race duration. Even in an inbred family they are never pure in the gene department, all being of mixed ancestral origins. En route to our chosen race the team will all be liberated at the race points in whatever weather conditions prevail and so it is, was and will be. After a period of say 25 years you may well be wiser than the raw novice who attempted to win his first sprint race. In the colony a pecking order will prevail, akin to a human committee!!

PIGEON PHOTOS

I like the natural looking ones and Peter Bennet first came to me in 89 and does a great job. I do not favour the air brushed ones which reflect a false image. The key attributes of a pigeon are beyond the lens-internal-and invisible to the camera and naked eye. However a pictorial record of your birds is good for history and thousands of birds are bought and sold on outward appearances. A family montage is a nice reminder of your key birds for reference reasons. The leading photographers will meet you at dinners and shows and some will come to your home.  A pretty picture may increase your desire to buy and own that bird-and thus fortunes are made and men become famous.
