You should be as the birds will soon be free in the greatest race on planet earth. The lib at Barcelona Int. is a truly awesome site as the birds fan out to exotic and distant lands. The entry from UK and Ireland is not as large in number as it could be, despite my promotion of it for over 20 years. A supreme test of character of man and bird, it remains the realm of a minority of specialists and a few dreamers and believers. There is no hiding place in this race and no flukes, as the best in the conditions facing them will prevail. We will be having a dip into the turbulent waters -another dose of hard race reality. It really is the race that all fanciers who race a bird need a once in a lifetime shot at. A wise move is breeding from the timers each year after their arrival. The race has it all-birdage/difficulty/competition/prestige and the very best of real marathon pigeons and the men who fly them.

 

 

What Makes Marathon Racing So Difficult ???

 

In tough conditions very few birds of any origin will crack on over 700 miles on the second day to their home loft. These are the birds I like to breed from. Most people will hate waiting over the lengthy periods required, and you need a week’s holiday at Barcelona. The races sort out the individuals and these will be exceptional to the rule. Time and distance make all the distance to the type of birds that will grace your loft in race reality-and they will be different shapes and sizes, believe me. The essential qualities of a good bird are internal-the genes, the guts, the drive, the navigation. You can guess at these before the race point that will prove or disprove the case. Ideally these races are for optimistic and seasoned specialists!
