A GRADUAL BUILD UP TO NEXT YEAR'S MARATHONS

by Jim Emerton

The work is in progress, and hens and cocks are out on alternate days, to arouse and stimulate themselves in harmony with and as a response to the natural elements - the rain/mist/sun and all that the earth gives. After the main moult the toughness and immune systems will be at a premium. The diet is all they can eat to appetite of a nutritious moulting mix and supplements that we formulate, for bodily growth of tissue and feather, and to supply all the physiological needs of a non racing pigeon e.g. pellets/Hormoform/a protein mix/oils/Matrix etc. The view is long term and focused ahead to produce targeted race condition for the following year. Psychologically it requires mental discipline and a long fuse. The modus operandi is long term gratification and gradual improvement within the limits of our capabilities. The final goal is the evolution of a hardy and reliable family of marathon birds, some of which have speed/endurance capability.
