FOCUSING ON BLACKPOOL
by Jim Emerton
In the madding crowd will be characters, and bargains induced to detach you from your money. If I went again, after meeting the great Emiel Denys in 77, I would concentrate on a few distance men - another interview perhaps? - and study some of the birds with great intent. The integrity of the breeder is paramount, before analysing and trusting a paper pedigree - some of these are highly creative. In my simple philosophy, do what you enjoy and repeat it - a recipe for happiness. Bound to be some good ones at the Gordon and Wilcox sales, and don't be mesmerised by good looks, since the inherent quality of a pigeon is internal and genetically determined - you can guess at that one. Blackpool is deeply embedded as a phenomenon in the popular and collective consciousness of pigeon folk - an enduring institution. Yes my memories have been enriched by my rare sojourns to that intense theatre of excitement which is Blackpool.
