Since it was first introduced into Mid Antrim many years ago by James Harris it has been a huge success, based on the football format the top lots are involved in a league competition for the old bird inland races and then go forward to the knock-out stage over the cross channel programme with the final at Penzance in late June.

The top racing lofts in each of the Mid Antrim Combine clubs are nominated for the season's completion and winners over the years include the following.

Johnston & Mervyn Eagleson top season in 2025 included winning the MAC Champions League for Ballymena & District HPS.

Racing for the NIPA starts on Saturday 18th April. Clubs should appoint a PO to supply race info weekly and a photo when possible. h April. Homer will be covering Sections A, B, E and H while Jordayn Hughes with his column under Journeys End will feature Sections C, D, F and G. Locally Mervyn Eagleson will report on Mid Antrim Combine, he has already set out the Champions League. New members this season will include Brooklyn Hanson in Brough Shane and Sam Scott & Son in Kells & District, all clubs should appoint a PO to send race news weekly and when possible, a photo of winners holding birds at the loft. Weekend deadlines are tight so send info ASAP after each race is complete.

Mr Tony Hobbs from Arklow United RPC. Tony has named his National Winner after Mr John Doyle who bred her. ‘Johns Girl’ is primarily a Heremans – Ceusters based pigeon and was very lightly raced this year.

1st Open Yearling National & Nelson Corry Trophy Winner: T. Hobbs, Arklow United

Before the Yearling National she raced from Castletown on the 3rd May 2025, which is approximately 138 miles, and then Owenahincha on the 10th May 2025, which is approximately 146 miles. In the month leading up to the Yearling National ‘Johns girl’ was flown around the loft morning and night plus given a couple of training tosses each week.

“John’s Girl’ raced on the Natural System and was sitting on eggs nearly ready to hatch. Tony’s advice to anyone starting out in pigeon racing is to obtain young ones from a local fancier, keep your team small and learn from your mistakes.

History Nelson Corry Cup – Winner 1st Open INFC Yearling National

The Yearling National was flown for the first time in 1977 to celebrate the Queens Jubilee Year, liberation in Weymouth was at 5.30am after a one day hold-over. Toland & Campbell from Bleary won 1st Open INFC doing velocity 1055 and collected the Jubilee Trophy. In 1978 the race was added to the INFC race programme and Nelson Corry Cup was presented for first time. Homer and the late L O Barr put the suggestion forward at the AGM and it has proved to be a very popular event. The late Nelson Corry was a long-time Chairman of INFC.
