GWENT GREATER DISTANCE CLUB

2013 PRESENTATION

Members and Guests of the Gwent Greater Distance Club were once again warmly welcomed at the Green Meadow Golf Club, Cwmbran, Newport for their annual Presentation night. John Tyerman and his wife Linda kindly consented to present the awards this year and made the long journey from West Sussex on the Saturday morning to be with us. John is the President of the BICC and winner of the French Barcelona Challenge one loft race twice in the last three years amongst many other top performances.

The evening began with the traditional dinner before the Chairman, Ray Strawbridge spoke admirably about our sadly missed member and friend, Dennis Ford. Ray highlighted that there were now, amongst our 50 or so members, over 80 National wins. A true sign of the dedication to our members. With two BICC open wins again this year, when coupled with the many other top positions in the BICC, our members can now confidently say they are competitive British competitors and the GGDC can be considered as the club of the future, here, right now.

Tony Coombs, then welcomed members, guests, visitors from Scotland and the Midlands before introducing John Tyerman and his wife Linda. John gave a comprehensive insight into the BICC, which has a membership in excess of 1300 at present and expressed the value of the GGDC’s link with the BICC. John congratulated the GGDC members on their performances within the BICC and the GGDC and proceeded with the presentation of the trophies and enhanced prize monies.

Immediately after the presentation the guests were entertained by the first of the two artists of the evening. The performances were briefly interrupted to allow John Burgham to auction 6 gifted pigeons and what top class pigeons John had to auction. Thanks for the donations, the bidders and John's professional auctioneering. It never fails to impress me the knowledge that true enthusiasts like John can recall at even the shortest of notice. Thanks John. Thanks again to all who kindly donated the Lots and the raffle prizes.

There will be a meeting of GGDC on the 8th December 2014 where any members who were unable to attend this year’s presentation night can collect any trophies and prize monies outstanding.

The 2014 GGDC presentation will be held on the 25th October 2014.

I would like to congratulate the members on their 2013 successes and wish you all a healthy and successful 2014.
