Enfield Continental Flying Club

Prize Winners 2022

Another racing season has now been completed down at the Cabbage Patch, with the prize winners now been completed for the season. It has been another season with most of the members scoring in the Top 6, and this also makes a very competitive club and finishing in the top 10 is a good result.

Starting in reverse order we had 14-year-old Young Fancier Cassius Powell Davidson who only has ever had 2 Young bird races and he took 1x4th.

Next, we had Peter Glass who only raced Old Birds took 1x1st and 1x6th.

John Figueira who only sent to a few races took 2x4th’s, 1x5th & 1x6th.

Arif Karibas who was new to the Club as well as being another new starter only joined this season racing old birds took the following positions 1x3rd, 3x4th’s, as well as 1x5th.

Bob Brock took 1x1st, 1x2nd, 1x3rd and 1x5th.

Algis Tiatauris and his wife Jurgita had an excellent season with their team of Lambrecht’s from Geoff Barker and their own family of De Klak’s winning 2x1st’s, 2x2nd’s, 4x3rd’s and 1x5th.

Runner up for this season was Club Secretary Steve Holloway with his Van Reet’s which originated from Louella back in 2015, and Lambrecht’s from Geoff Barker, Busschaerts from Steve Sheffield, with the odd Jan Aarden thrown in took the following positions 6x1st’s, 7x2nd’s, 4x3rd’s, 4x4th’s, 5x5th’s and 3x6th’s.

Finally, we had our highest prize-winner for the 2022 season, Billy Watkins who wins it for the Second successive season. Since Bill retired a couple of years ago, he has started to spend more time with the birds and is being rewarded for the time he has been putting in with top performances in the Club as well as some excellent national positions. Bill’s team of pigeons are from various fanciers with the Sprint / Middle distance being from Tony Cripps, Freddie Smith, Mark Edwards, who bred Billy’s Bullet, Simon Schofield, Peter “Super Lou” Wells and the Watford Wizard Terry Haley, who has just had another excellent season with another BBC win. And the Long Distance being from Johnny Black of Stotfold, Mark Bulled of Harlow and Johnny Chipperfield of Kent.

Away from the pigeon’s bill loves spending time with his 4 Grandchildren Frankie, Henry, Lara & Arthur, who also like to help their grandad with the pigeons, as well as play with Bill’s Lurcher x Whippet Jess,

Billy took the following positions this season in the Club, 8x1st’s, 8x2nd’s, 8x3rd’s, 5x4th’s and 1x6th.

Recently our Secretary Steve Holloway received a phone call from the Cabbage Patch social club saying that he had some bad news. Our Clubhouse with all the Club’s equipment inside had been the victim of an arson attack and had been completely destroyed. With the Arson attack taking place our Show Season has been cancelled for this season, but it will be returning in November 2023. Since then, I have been told that we have now been given a metal container for us to use in the future, so we will have to get that ready and set up for racing in 2023. Also, from what I have been told, we should have some new members racing with us next season.
