The Way Things Are in 2020

I was looking back at when I last reported on the East Down Combine which was back on the 20^th February and then we were all anticipating a new racing season and all that it meant but my how things have changed with the appearance of Coronavirus and how this has changed society. Initially a period of more or less total lockdown which only now has started to ease subject to certain restrictions and I know some of our Combine members have had the virus and we know how serious it can be and this has led to initially a ban on racing and training birds which again subject to adhering to a strict Protocol has now allowed for racing to begin and all credit to the various clubs for gearing up for a new way of life which in my own case means no going into the club and not being able to help at either race marking or clock checking which after a lifetime of helping I find very strange .Anyhow having said that the EDC have organised a race programme which commenced on the 7^th of June with the opening race from Tullamore and after weeks of Summer like weather it was all change for that week end with first of all strong winds and rain which by the Sunday had reduced to a brisk NW wind which saw a steady start to the season . The Entry was over 4,500 birds and release took place at 12 noon .

Pride of place this week with a great result goes to the Newtownbreda partnership of B Hogg & Sons now managed by Jack

Hogg who take the top three in the Open and West Section all on 1428ypm ,Ballylesson’s John Kirk and Sons and Gillespie Bros take 4^th And 5^th open and West Section respectively with the next four in the open taking the top four places in the East Section were to the Annalong club the first of these being to J Trimble & Grandson Zack and the next three were to Kevin Rooney , son & Dtr .

This week the EDC move on to Thurles for the first of two races from there . Top Open ,Section and nominated result was :
