HARPER &YOUNG FINISH SEASON AS THEY STARTED
In No1 Spot
The Final race in the 2015 East Down Programme was the Ken McConaghie Derby from Skibbereen flown on September 12th. The convoy was liberated at 9am into a Westerly wind which again saw the winning bird out on the East Coast with a winning velocity of 1901 ypm and a well fancied bird, it also won the 2 bird club . As this was the last race of the EDC 2015 season I hope to feature over the next few weeks some of the outstanding winners of 2015 . This Skibbereen winner was to the Cloughey partnership of Drew Harper & Martin Young which meant that this partnership closed the season in the same manner in which they had opened it ,at first Open for you will recall that way back in April from the first Old Bird race of the season from Tullamore they won the top three places in the open ..
Never far from the top throughout the season they also took the top two places from the Old Bird Inland classic also from Skibbereen ,all in all , an excellent season was enjoyed by this partnership .
The next three places from the Ken McConaghie Skibbereen race went to The Newtownbreda partnership of B Hogg & Sons and as mentioned last week this loft has had a super Young Bird season .
Next was the Dundonald partnership of Cowan & McCartney and they also have had a great season ..
Good to see Ken McConaghie’s Son Geoff and Geoff’s mum Betty in at 17th Open 11th West Section in this race ..

National Success for Ardglass Fanciers
I am always glad to hear of individual successes and one recent success was to the partnership of Paddy Byrne & son of Ardglass , who belong to the Downpatrick club and who came 18th North Section 25th open 1st East Down Combine in the recent INFC YB National from Penzance which was a very testing race this year . Paddy and his son PJ timed a bird of Tom Marshall bloodlines ,Tom is a good friend of Paddy’s and Paddy says he is also his Mentor . Well done to you and PJ.
