BRITISH BARCELONA CLUB’S 50th ANNIVERSARY

1st British Barcelona Club, Palamos 1967

Unfortunately Squills did not carry a report of the 1967 race winner who was

A.G.M. Stevens of Swindon flying 707 miles taking first place from 296 birds with

a winning velocity of 849ypm. As can be seen from an advert, shown below, 45 of

those birds were recorded in race time and 40% were verified. This was the first

race from Palamos but as can be seen from the advert another was planned for

1968. The birds were to be transported by air with Marking on Wednesday 26

June for a liberation on Friday 28

June. Taking inflation into account the Birdage

of £1-10s. would be £23.78 in today’s money, Subscriptions of £1-1s. would be

£16.65 and the R.N.H.U. Fee of 4s. 6d. would be £3.57.
